Foreman turned down a fight with has-been bum to fight never-were bums.

If Foreman had fought Tucker I'd still have the same complaint with the WBA.
Tucker should have been no where near being a mandatory challenger.

He was a head on the score cards before Mc Call stopped him in the ninth. He was a good fighter with some suprising wins like against Tony Tucker. He also beat A decent Joe Hipp in his first defense. I remember wathcing Mc Call-Ribalta. Ribalta had him down in the first but Seldon really came back and took it to Ribalta stopping him in the third.
Against Bowe and Tyson though he was aweful. Bowe was very impressive taking out Seldon in 1:48 seconds. Dropping him twice along the way.

Your wrong; the WBA did not lose credability with Seldon/Tucker or indeed in 1964; because you cannot lose what you never had!;)

I've always felt that Bruce Seldon and Tony Tucker were steared into a title fight for the purpose of ultimately being easy pickings for a returning Tyson. A similar case could be made for Bruno-McCall. Don King knew that if he placed easy prey in those positions that Tyson would easily win two fragments of the crown and be in position to take any high paying fight they wanted him to have.

In 1994-95, neither Bruce Seldon nor Tony Tucker were worthy of being in #1 and #2 spots. Larry Merchant said it himself that the system was corrupt for us to be seeing such fighters so highly rated, especially when one of them lost in only a single round to Riddick Bowe, who now rated lower than both!!!

Whatever, Seldon covered himself with SHAME for his cowardly performance against Mike Tyson, falling down from MISSED punches, for God's sake!! 'Nuff said.

bruce seldon was a hw champion period! he's not going to be in the hall of fame, but he's accomplished more than anyone on this board and in the world for that matter by getting a piece of the title. Seldon, McCall, Tucker, and Bruno were def lined up to be fodder for post-prison Tyson. Don King had the wheels in motion for after his release long before it happened. But give Seldon the respect he is owed. He was once the hw champion and is by no means the first man to be paralyzed by the aura of Tyson.

I think Seldon was a decent heavyweight that was thrust in the spolight unprepared. I think he lacked what it took on the inside to make him elevate to the next level. I understood that he just fought a few weeks ago and isn't doing to well financially.

He isn't doing very well peroid.

He was involved sexually with a teenage girl years ago. I think he served time in prison or under house arrest for it. I know his weight ballooned up to damned near 300 pounds when he was fighting the likes of Tye Fields too. The man definitely had his demons, though he seems to be getting along now.

He was a titlist. He was never the HW Champ.

I thought that he invested the 5 million he got for the Tyson fight so that for the rest of his life he gets like $2,000 a month. Isn't exactly rich by modern standards, but it ain't chump change either for sitting on your ass all day long and collecting that kind of dough. Plus, he still gets money for fighting, and if he has another job on the side, he could make a decent living.

Carl King basically robbed him. I know Bruce was working at some lumber yard or something to the likes a few years ago.

I don't agree. I stated earlier, much earlier if you look at the date, in this thread that I only recognize one champion in each division. I am a fan, and have every right to do so. I don't have to recognize someone just because the WBA does.

Bruce Seldon was a talented fighter, but did not have everything it takes to be a real champion. He achieved the feat of being a titlist, which is more than I have ever done. Still, he never was The Man to beat in the division.

i hope he's doing well, i wish him all the best, as far as people denouncing his heart and chin, he has risen back from the canvas to win or lose in several of his fights and has fought thru injury, which to me shows heart and that he was not a quitter or a coward, one loss does not and should not define his legacy, all fighters have had an embarrassing loss, tommy morrison said it best, "if you stick around long enough your going to get your ass handed to you"
