He wouldn't have my vote to beat either of those guys. Seldon had poor stamina and a very weak mental resolve. He also had defense and ring generalship that was average at best. Lastly, he did not posses the type of punching power that his enourmous physique might suggest. I think Byrd outboxes him to a clear decision, while Ruiz wears him down and stops him late. I could be wrong of course, but Seldon's track record against rated opposition was very poor, especially against anyone who could weather the storm for the early rounds of a match...
At his peak Seldon showed decent stamina and very good heart. Check out his first loss in his hometown against McCall. He also shows the punching power you'd imagine he'd possess in that fight.
Thanks for the recomendation, but I already saw that fight live 17 years ago, and seeing Seldon crying was more than enough....... Where in the hell did you think that he showed good stamina and heart in that match? Christ, of all the things that he needed to show, those were the two things that he had absolutely none of in that fight.
What, because he had his 0 taken in front of his friends and family despite giving it everything he had while getting the crap slowly kicked out of him by McCall? Yeah, shame on Seldon. By the way, I said he showed DECENT stamina, not "good" stamina. You're seemingly trying tell me what kind of viewpoint on it I have so you can discredit it.
It sure as hell wasn't showing the heart that you claimed he showed. His stamina wasn't even decent. It was crap. He gassed after only 7 or 8 rounds before losing in the 9th against a man who was otherwise considered a journeyman at the time. Remember, McCall would not beat Lewis until a few years later. And where did he show the power in that fight? I don't recall him ever having McCall hurt whatsoever.. If you find the fight on youtube or someplace else, feel free to post it so we can discuss round for round what really happened. Because, frankly nothing you're saying is adding up to what I remember.
Oliver was dazed a few times by Bruce, but remember at the time Seldon was a happening heavyweight (supposedly) and Oliver rarely brought his A-Game, he was tough because of his sparring nature of being a hard nosed survivor amongst great company.. Seldon had a fabulous jab and great fast movement.... When McCall bust his bubble it was a surprise to many , but i knew Ollie very well and it came as nice news , but by no means an overwealming shock to see him grab the win.. McCall always did them things.. beat prospects.. (Seldon, Lewis, Damiani, Akinwande,Saleta, samil sam) Oliver loved being the underdog..
I love Tony Tucker. (avatar) but i was actually staggered at the amount of times he recieved a DKP promoted shot at the world title.. James Douglas, Lennox Lewis, Bruce Seldon, Herbie Hide....... i suppose it was just matched by Frank Bruno..... Witherspoon, Tyson, Lewis, McCall.... Great management work i suppose..........
