Fury would have made Frank look silly. Hell, Frank, although loveable as he was, wasn't really that good, he would have struggled with Whyte & Chisora.
Bruno was a different league to these domestic puddings you get today, are we forgetting he was out boxing Witherspoon and Lewis and was the first man to hurt Tyson? He was more accurate and less hesitant a long range boxer than AJ. Better timing, better jab and more accurate and actually knew how to parry and block.
Nobody said he was a fat plodder/swinger. Actually, Bruno is one of the best advertisements for pharmaceutical intervention in the history of all sport - from a visual standpoint. His stamina was so **** poor because he was carrying an unnatural amount of muscle. Bruno was okay, but let's be honest, he would struggle with many a pudding from this era.
When we compare fighters from different eras the fairest way to do it is to compare them based on the level they reached in their era. Boxer A: Won a WBC belt off a weak champion who only made one defence before becoming a journeyman. He always came up short otherwise getting stopped late by elite HWs, on account of severe stamina issues and an inability to ever recover from being hurt. Boxer B: Won all the belts off the undisputed champion who was undefeated for 9 years. Became the lineal champion. Then went on to beat the undefeated WBC champion with 8 defences, winning the WBC title and ring HW title. In other words, Boxer A is an elite boxer who managed to get a belt but was not good enough to retain it or win a belt more than once. So is in the mix of top 5-10 from his era. Whilst Boxer B is an elite boxer who is the best of his era and has two major wins of elite champions to his names. But at this stage needs more defences for legacy reasons.
This was Bruno's 4th attempt at winning a 'world title' too, let's not forget. He was UK's most popular boxer and had the right connected managers/promoters (Lawless/Duff/Barret/Astaire cartel then jumping to Frank Warren when the old guard's influence waned). He didn't actually earn those shots, he just keep getting another chance. He would beat three or four bums and has beens, then find himself in another world title fight. McCall was a plodder. It's ridiculous that Lewis ever managed to lose to him.
Exactly, Bruno got a lot of title shots... and it was due to his personal appeal and popularity. It was not due to him beating elite HWs and getting impressive wins to "earn" himself a title shot. McCall was just a very average HW with a exceptional set of whiskers. Who managed to nail a very complacent Lewis on the button and win a strap for a brief period of time. If you look at McCall's career best wins, nothing other than that Lewis win in the first fight actually at all stands out. He beat Art Card, Dan Murphy and Francesco Damiani prior to getting his title shot.
Mcall couldnt have been that average...he was still winning fights in 2019. Debuted in 1985....had big cocaine problems since. Yet still fights up until last year. Thats not average. Beat that fred odenko in something like 2010...who was giving good names a good fight. Fought that pianata in 2012. The same guy fury fights 4 years later. Thats incredible when you think about it mcall who debuted in 1985....massive cocaine problems throughout still fighting the same guy fury fought
Haha of course most heavyweight champions, no matter how average, would still beat your average plumber off the street even if they are old and worse for wear.
At 56 years old. Beat fred osquendo when he was about 50. Over a 35 year career...and 75 fights he was never once knocked down. Mike tysons main sparring partner. Still winning in 2019 at 56 years old. Fought the same guy fury fought six fights ago and yet started in 1985. Beat lennox lewis. Fought him twice and never hit the canvas. But safin from the boxing forum thinks your just average. Its a bit like come off it. A lot of the 80,s guys fought till they we,re about 50. Had 70 fights. And yet these guys are described as a terrible generation. Does say a lot about fury who i m a big fan of.....fighting pianata about six fights ago. Mccall fought him aswell. A guy that started in 1985. People on here are say in one breath chisoras about danny williams level....wilders one of the biggest frauds ever and klitchko was old and yet furys made a name of being the greatest of all time off the back of them. Something doesnt add up. Beat an old klitchko by a couple of points.
You've lost the plot, bbjc. Too many PPV purchases have left you without money for bread and running tap water. Malnourishment is a *****.
I'll say this about McCall, he was and is a seriously hard man, he'd absolutely destroy John Fury's claims about himself and considering his drug addictions he did very well to get as far as he did, his celebration when becoming champion was amazing too, one of the best in boxing I've ever seen.
What in bbjc's post do you disagree with? He made some valid points, or are you saying he was incorrect with the McCall and fury comparisons
