Bruno, Ruddock, Mercer, Holy, Lennox, etc. all destroy Wlad

Holmes and Holyfield both beat Mercer more convincingly than Lewis. Plus Lewis never wanted a rematch although Mercer deserved one.

 

Hmmn - Interesting - And yet you probably think Pulev was so much more deserving of his ranking, at the time he got his shot at Wlad. A sad state of affairs indeed.

There's nothing for me to deal with. I haven't been trying to support anything to the contrary.

Perhaps you should deal with your habit of missing the point .

Wlad would rack up a few losses in the 90's. He'd win some too:

Lewis definitely and easily wins.

Bruno actually is very live here. He's got enough size and a big punch. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I'd slightly favor Bruno.

Ruddock, maybe, but I'd favor Wlad. Razor throws odd punches gives a way a lot of reach. He'd probably get clinched into a loss.

Mercer. If he shows up at his best he's live here. Problem is Mercer is one of those guys who is sometimes amazing and sometimes lazy. Wlad is dull but consistent. For that reason, I'd pick Wlad.

Holyfield will have a tough time. Holyfield is the greater fighter no doubt, but the big guys can give him trouble. I'd favor him due to his wins over vastly superior opposition.

Here's another guy from the 90's that would give Wlad hell. Andrew Golota. Golota would probably batter him for about 5 rounds then find a way to get himself DQed. Wlad wins in the records, loses the event.

I think Wlad beats Bowe. Bowe's got the offense, but his defense was poor. Bowe had a decent jab, but Wlad's is better. He'd eat too many punches. On the inside, where Bowe can fight, Wlad would just clinch.

Old Foreman. Call me crazy, but old big George would win. He was sort of smart in there, relentless, and that huge power would turn the fight around on a dime. Wlad went down a bunch vs the crude slow and stupid Peter, against George, he stays down.

Wlad destroys Moorer, beats Tua, beats Ike, likely beats Morrison

Akinwande vs Wlad would just devolve into a make out session with so much hugging, the audience will fell dirty and leave the arena.

 

Clearly. Because Pulev's W UD 12 over Tony Thompson is legendary.

 

Lewis's chin will not hold up against Wlad.

 

No because Michael Grant was a hype job who went bust.... Never achieved anything in his career, after Lewis he basically became a high level journeyman.

 

Better than anything Grant did.

Sure he beat Golota but Golota is one of the most overrated fighter on ESB along with Tua.

Golota's best win prior to Bowe was Nicholson. He never beat a top 10 fighter that I can recall, unless you class airline Norris as one.

Grant was all hype.

 

Golota was a mental midget and a bit chinny, but really talented... That's the general consensus here it seems. I'd agree.....

Golota was well ahead on the cards, and knocked Grant on his ass twice in the first rd... Was ahead 7 points on two cards prior to his breakdown in the 10th.

 

Don't get me wrong I am a fan of Golota but he was weak mentally as you said.

He fought well against Byrd and Ruiz but he didn't have a 'name' victory on his record.

Regarding Michael Grant he was all hype yet he still beat Golota. This gets me when people rave on about Lewis' era, it get severely overated this is shown with having Grant, shot Tyson and Tua ranked in the top 5.

 

Let's see where Pulev goes then.

Truth be known, I really cannot be bothered to split hairs on the comparison. Pulev was no more or less deserving of his ranking than Grant, by the time they each got their respective shots at a title.

Pulev is just at that point Grant was after losing to Lewis; having achieved nothing of note but losing to Wlad by KO. So - really - what's to separate them, at this relative point in their careers? Nothing - unless you want to try and big up the Thompson win for Pulev and **** over Grant's pre-Lewis ledger.

 

I thought he deserved both of those fights, Byrd and Ruiz were "popular" with the judges you could say.

I don't disagree with anything you said, but I think Golota was a talented guy, but mentally weak & chinny... that's all.

Yeah, people call this era ****. But those guys wouldn't be anywhere near the top today.:huh
