Foreman wins the lineal belt from Moorer in 94. He s supposed to defend against axel schulz in April 95. Let's say the Bruno V mccall fight falls through? Schulz pulls out of the proposed fight with foreman due to injury. A fight between Bruno and foreman is set up instead for Las Vegas in September 95. So brunos back for a title challenge where he faced Tyson in 89. Is frank confident enough here to beat the old guy? Would he pull off a mccall type victory, or is foreman going to crack the right hand on Bruno at some point and shatter his dream again?
Bruno will smash up Foreman's face with the jab and right hand, swelling to the size of a tractor tyre. But eventually down the line Bruno will gas and Foreman just has to land a few right hands. Bruno may not go down, but he will at least be TKO'd. Hell of a chin, not as good stamina or survival instincts. I don't think he could hold Foreman the way he scraped by McCall.
Weird. I was just thinking of making this thread. Must be picking up some cosmic vibes. I find this a hard one to predict. If anyone's getting stopped it's Bruno, though it'll likely be in a similar way to how he always got stopped, gassed, hurt and on his feet. If anyone can match Foreman power for power though, it's old Frank, and Foreman's likely to take some real heavy facial punishment win or lose. I think the mental pressure and general imperviousness of Foreman will start to get to Bruno after a while, who'll begin to panic and clinch and gas as he did with McCall, after which Foreman can start to land some heavy blows and potentially force a stoppage. On the other hand, Foreman's face had a tendency to mark up in his comeback career and Bruno's steampole jab and right hands would do fearsome damage if they were consistently landed. Not only is that a strong possibility but Bruno had the height to match Foreman, which would negate to some degree the effectiveness of his cross arm guard, effective against shorter fighters punching up but leaving him wide open to shots coming from above or on the level. I think either fighter can win here, though I'd lean slightly towards Foreman due to Bruno's confidence issues.
Big George would take some real punishment in the early rounds, say what you want about Bruno but the guy had brutal power and good boxing skills. Pick em fight IMO.
Good match up (at the times you've mentioned). I think the ref plays a massively significant role in this one. Both were apt to take a few too many cracks to the face by this point. At what point will the referee step in? Could have been a controversial one. I'd go for Foreman by tko after the halfway mark. Round seven or eight.
Franks habit of freezing up when stung or hurt won't work against this guy. And George will go to uppercuts when Bruno even tries covering up. Lose the battles but win the war type fight for George sometime during the 2nd half of the fight. The guy I wanted to see Frank in with was Holmes. Especially if Larry uncharacteristically took the big $$ and was the road warrior going to London.
If Tommy Morrison 93 could outbox a aging Foreman then so could Bruno 95 with his underrated ram rod jab. Would be similar to Alex Stewart fight with Foreman face being turned into a grotesque mess. However different outcome with Bruno winning on pts.
Tommy became very mobile in his bout with Foreman. Bruno is not mobile...he is a big target. Foreman is better in all categories and would walk down Bruno for the TKO win...early. Old ATG beats bodybuilder boxer wannabe.
The safer bet for me is Foreman stopping Frank mid to later rounds. Wouldn't be surprised if Frank outboxed him early.
I see it been similar to this. Bruno and foreman s jab both banging each other s faces up. As juppity mentioned, shades of the Foreman - Stewart fight, but with out frank being kd early. Bruno at times looking a sure fire winner, rocking George and having his face swollen. But at around the tenth round mark, Bruno been caught by a foreman hammer and sagging back against the ropes. He'd stay upright but foreman s punches coming at him would leave the ref no option but to stop it. Frank in the lead by 6 round to 3 at the time.
That fight could have happened back then. Especially if Holmes had beaten mccall. He could have had Bruno has a first defence. I would have Bruno in with a chance against old Larry. It wouldn't have been a easy fight because Holmes still had a great jab and chin, but I think Frank makes it to the finishing line and gets a tight decision.
Perry, that bodybuilding wannabe gave Witherspoon a tough hard fight, rocked Tyson, gave Lewis a boxing lesson for half a fight and won the wbc belt. You name me a bodybuilder that could do that?
