Supposing that Mike Tyson had n't have been let out of chokey in 1995. In this alternative universe Don King decides to unify the title once again. We have old George Foreman,Frank Bruno and Bruce Seldon as the titilists. Who would win an elimination ? I favour Bruno and George over Seldon, but am uncertain as to who would win a fight between an old Foreman and Bruno.
Foreman couldnt beat Seldon, he was too mobile and Foreman wouldnt catch up to him. I might even favor Seldon to win the whole thing, because Bruno would probably leave him alone enough to allow Seldon to survive. Seldon was a good boxer when he wasnt pressured too much. Foreman could beat Bruno but I dont think he could beat Seldon. Wow Bruce Seldon undisputed heavyweight champion ugghh...
I can't help but feel that a Foreman-Seldon fight would be similar to George fighting Moorer. Coming from behind to knock his guy out. Seldon was awful against Tyson.
Its possible, but I think the more likely comparison would be to Foreman Morrison. Seldon was very comfortable fighting a fight like Morrison fought that night and when you see a guy like Crawford Grimsley and Lou Savarase or Shannon Briggs being able to make it the distance, its quite possible Seldon would do the same. He would look to run and keep away from George, whereas Moorer became cocky and started standing right in front of George and allowed him to land that righthand.
I AGREE Stevie m8, but Seldon did control Tyson with teh long jab before he took a dive, but it would not work on Big George who was huge, superheavy And had a better harder jab. This guy took Foreman the distance, and it wasnt Thunder. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ7JnZjYO6U&feature=related[/ame]
Bruno was the best of the three but old George was mentally the toughest - and that goes a long way. That said George would not face Bruno in a month of Sundays- too big. George had a strict policy in his comeback, he would give away age and speed but never size and power against an active heavyweight. He ducked Tony tucker, why would he fight Bruce seldon or bruno?
This rings true, choklab. Larry Holmes also admitted before his fight with Oliver McCall that he would n't defend against Bruno or any other hard hitting young fighter, had he beaten the Atomic Bull.
Nice info, but Holmes did out-box McCall & deserved the WBC title in my opinion. Then with Holmes ducking Bruno or any other young threat, King could persuade Old Larry to give Tyson a rematch!* *Sorry i know that's not on-topic.
this is a very good original post. these 3 would be 50-50 fights who would win??? , i think you have to question seldons heart especially against big punchers like foreman and bruno , seldon though has the power to knock out bruno. bruno vs foreman....i still think foreman can win this because like moorer it only takes 1 big punch.....if bruno avoids that punch he wins on points foreman vs seldon.....again foreman can land that punch but at this stage seldons movement can win the fight bruno vs seldon....seldons jab is quicker but brunos right hand is harder and quite fast , bruno by ko here so whos the best at this time.....i say bruno foreman in his prime takes less than 5 rounds to KO both
On paper it would seem that the other two should be able to beat Foreman, yet my instinct tells me that George would find a way to win this. He has a much better history of rising to the occasion than the other two. I think Seldon or Bruno would likely be afraid of George, allowing to assert himself and take charge. That would be my vote, but really it's kind of a toss-up. How ironic that for one brief moment in the talent-rich nineties, this is what we had to choose from.
