i was watching one of those documentaries earlier that was looking at tyson's career.
they show various fights, obviously the douglas match, and also the first bruno too.
i hadn't seen the bruno fight in years and i was impressed at how bruno wasn't intimidated by tyson whatsoever, and was getting quite rough with him in the clinches at times.

it was great watching tokyo douglas once more as well. he really fought great that night.
he seemed to have a lot of talent. thats the only fight i've seen of his unfortunately, so i'll check out some more.
the 'experts' kept mentioning how douglas would sometimes just give up in a fight, so never really realized his true potential. did this happen much?

so anyway, it got me wondering how a bruno and 'buster' douglas fight would of gone?

Despite Buster Douglas having the shortest prime (1 fight) of all time, he clearly was a force to be reckoned with when motivated and in good shape. I don't see Bruno stopping the best possible version of Douglas and I can't see Bruno standing up to the kind of fire power Buster has. Bruno may win the battle of the jabs, but gets stopped late on when the much fresher Douglas presses the action.

Douglas at his best would beat Bruno. Douglas had very good feet for a big man when he was in shape. The uninspired Douglas lost to all forms of fighters including journeyman, so it depends which Buster shows up.

Douglas would outbox and knock out Bruno, fluidity beats stiffness

On the night that he fought out of his skin against Mike Tyson in Tokyo,Douglas would have stopped Bruno. Definitley.

The men who usually beat Bruno were big hitters who imposed themselves on him and were able to hammer him with hard shots. Douglas wasn't that type of fighter. In addition, Frank had good power, great size, top conditioning, heart, and could arguably take a better shot. I don't buy into this concept that "tokyo Douglas" was some head to head monster. He fought exceptionally for one night and part of it had just as much to do with Tyson as it did Douglas. If we were to look at the "norm" of their careers, Bruno would be the guy who beat Coetzee, Coetzer, McCall and Tillis, while losing to prime versions of great fighters. Douglas beat an aging Berbick, slipping page and was beat by guys like Ferguson and White. Bruno was the better fighter IMO

Ahhh so looking at Bruno's best wins while ignoring his losses, which weren't any better than Douglas second tier wins, while ignoring Douglas best win, yea that makes Bruno the better fighter :-(

Wow. Sounds like Bruno is no match for Douglas. I think it would be a very tough fight.

Smith, Witherspoon, Tyson and Lewis were the only 4 fighters who beat Frank, all top fighters with the possible exclusion of Smith ,a fight Bruno had in the bag before the last round.

Frank was a good fighter, Douglas at his very best wouldve stopped him late but anything less gets knocked out by " The Nuke ".
