Johnson had the press in his dressing room after the fight, he gave several interviews there. It was commented on that he did not have a mark on him. After the impromptu press conference, he went for a swim, that night he entertained friends for dinner at his home.
McIntosh, Burns closest friend , and the referee, stated,"he is a funny fellow ,that Johnson. He stood up before Tommy and when the latter rushed would say,"This is what's known as a left hook Tommy"then he'd let go.The he'd step back and ,as Tommy rushed in would say,"I will now give you another little lesson on boxing,Tommy; look out for your eye!" And then he'd let go on Burns' eye.He just kidded Tommy to death" I hope Mendacity posts some more crap ,he does a much better job of making a **** of himself than anyone else could acheive.

The fight film shows Burns landed body blows on Johnson, now I am not saying the close was fight by any means, but Burns did hit Johnson.

As for ribs being broken, I not sure, there are storys both ways in that regard.

Johnson several times stood still and invited Burns to hit him in the body, this was in response to Burns saying all n*****s are weak in the body.
It can easily be seen on the film.
Ever had cracked ribs? I have if you've got them ,you don't go swimming.:patsch

But Tony Romo can beat the 49er's and Skins with them, and perhaps the lions a week from now.

    Thanks for posting this Mendoza.

Perhaps I shouldn't say anything as a newbie as there seems to be bad blood here, but I think the issue is how much research McCaffery did and how accurate he is.

I am not surprised if London, who was a fiction writer with an ultra-dramatic style, might not have been an accurate reporter, going for a "good story" rather than the facts.

All this does, if true, is further the legend of johnson and confirm what most already believe: he was clearly the most superior of all the hw's of that time. He toyed with burns, toyed with him. If he did so with a broken rib that's just even more aweinspiring.

I feel I need to up my estimation of johnson's h2h ability but i'm still unsure about his fighting style.
