    Just for a little perspective:

    More people die in coal mines than in boxing rings. (and the same goes for getting permanent physical damage.) The same is probably true of Pro football (USA) though the correlation is still largely undocumented.

    Lots of occupations are brutal.

    :? Very interesting indeed. Did they use the same weight gloves as they do today? or was there no rule for that at the time in the sport?
