At their very best weights, there would be no more than a few pounds btwn these two, and both proved they could war w/ the middleweights as well. Who takes it? I think it's a pretty fair contest w/ both men taking tons of punishment, although stylistically, I think Basilio has an advantage. Basilio SD. One of the greatest slugfests of all time. That cannot be debated, unless of course, you've never watched either one of them before.
Wouldn't Basilio be on another level really? Or was Paret not given the opportunities to show his skill like Basilio who certainly fought among all time greats?
Basilio wouid put Paret on the back-foot like Fullmer did. Paret's best success would be throwing those fast combinations to the body, and then coming up top. They'd have great exchanges in the centre of the ring, but I think Carmen focusses on pushing Paret back to the ropes.
Paret fought a who’s who from his era, same as Basilio. He just didn’t fare nearly as well because he didn’t carry nearly as much substance to his style. He was arguably just as fun to watch, though. Some would say, anyway.
Two fighters whom would ask for or give no quarter. A burn burner while it last. Basilio's superior strength, endurance, and toughness would carry him to victory by late stoppage or unanimous dec.
