He has given Lara three rounds (2nd and last two) and only has him down the deducted point.

 

Round 7

Exchanges as they come together see both men landing hooks. Perez drives Lara back with a series of forceful jabs. Lara is landing some uppercuts to the body but getting the worst of the frequent exchanges as both men slug it out in a slow to-and-fro dance with high hard shots raining down to slap at each man's head.

One of the corners needs to be wiped down, slick with what looks like blood, delaying the start of the eighth.

 

Round 8

Lara is rolling his shoulders while backing away to the ropes, and then crab-walking awkwardly to the side until he gets off the ropes and into open space where he just starts over. Lara comes forward cautiously from down low, his left forearm sticking up as a shield. Perez opens up with combos, breathing a bit heavy but taking the lead and initiating the action with jabs to the forehead and hooks or sinker rights to the body. Perez bounces a right hand off Lara's face and then trots away as Lara looks to answer back. Perez retreats to the ropes and springs a trap with some body shots as he launches off, landing a bit low. Lara ducks a repeated 1-2 from Perez, trying to jab through at him but unable to see where he's aiming.

Round 9

Perez eats a jab and tries to slap down with his own. Hook to the body and right hand up top by Perez as they circle. Left hook upstairs by Perez. Lara backs up and lines up four consecutive straight punches. Perez steps out wide and measures his jab out, brushing its tip against Lara's nose. Diving right to the body by Perez from outside. Exchange, and Perez captures some ground with a left hook slamming heavily into Lara's shoulder. Both men wing their arms up, head hunting but getting in each other's way a bit. Perez is able to make a bit more flush contact on the face of Lara. 1-2 by Perez. Lara ducks and complains about a rabbit punch. Perez ducks a hook and a looping right, and is backed up to the ropes by a long flurry of straight shots. Slapping hooks by Perez trying to avoid getting backed up any further.

Miguel whatever-his-name-is thinks it has been close and isn't sure how the judges will have it.

He has Perez up 5-4 plus the deduction from Lara. (so up by two points).

I don't know how close it's been. None of the rounds have been whitewashes, but Perez has done the better work in most of them. I could honestly see anywhere from a Perez shutout to maybe the commentator's score (but more realistically 6-3 Perez being generous to Lara's periods of only somewhat effective aggression)

 

Round 10

Perez is backed up by a bevy of straight flurries and uppers to the chest by Lara. Perez is throwing his left jab and a wide bendy right past Lara's arms but backing up too quickly to put much behind them. Lara is running to catch up, trying to cut the ring off and hammer away when he can. Wild swings by Lara, but Perez is forced to hold. Perez tries to slap down with a hook backing up but Lara is waiting for him with a hard right hand. They clinch and remain hugging through the final bell.

What kind of two-horse-town is Costa Rica that they wouldn't announce the judges' scores after a boxing match?

Miguel I. said he'll only be able to find out the scores after the broadcast.

He sees them raise Lara's hand and thinks they gave it to him.

No, Miguel. It was a draw. That's why they both had their hands raised, if you were paying attention.

 

The poor guy still thinks Lara won.

I actually feel for Miguel. He's struggling a bit here, but in his defense he said this was a last-minute gig. Considering he was unprepared and doesn't speak the language and isn't there at the venue (just watching the same feed that BoxingChannel is airing - complete with local Costa Rican commercials - and laying his audio track over it) he's managing about as well as anyone could be expected to. :conf

 

Ah, that's why he thinks Lara won.

We're seeing a replay of Perez walking out of the ring in disgust at the decision.

Yeah, he was disgusted because he won about 8 rounds (by my estimation) and had to settle for a draw in his home town!
