I read in Polish site that Bryant comeback and he will fight with Joel Caudle. 3 more month and he will be 40. Looks like he want remeber himself in boxing communitty to try earn some Saudis money. Turki got lot of ideas but to make again and again interesting fight he need many names to not end this "dream boxing years" too quick. Jennings probably feel opportunity to try catch his chance. I dont think its wrong idea. If he win 2 fights I will watch his fight vs for example with Hrgovic for comeback with pleasure. And if he show up good performance there is more ideas.
He was only ever a gatekeeper and hasn't fought for 5 years. If he thinks there's money out there for him then why not, but it's hard to see him being relevant when he wasn't particularly relevant even in his prime.
i honestly didnt know he was that old. he was a unique operator. he might have something left. but i dont see what he is going to do with the guys out there now... though saying that. there are some shocking amount of 40+ yr old fighters at heavy looking for something they used to be. eh. hope he has kept himself in good knick.
He had a pretty good run from 2012 to 2015. Beat some solid names and found himself in a title fight because of it. I think he has a few good fights left in him vs lower tier names.
Sure, he went on an okay kind of run, got a title shot but it was a fight he lost wide for good reason. Considering he's not fought for 5 years and wasn't all that great to begin with, it's hard to see him coming back as anything other than a mediocre journeyman level fighter who'll roll over for a prospect or two without being too risky... Might pay okay, though.
"Had a spark when ya started but now ya just garbage" Jay Z Won't quite say he's garbage but his style isn't made to be a guy that would comeback and be a success
I think mediocre is a harsh word. IMO he is good enough to compete with the bottom 20 guys, if he still has some fight left in him. Mediocre is someone more like Wach or Schwarz. Jennings is a step above with guys like Takam and Chisora.
I think mediocre is pretty much right, honestly. Nah... Jennings at his best wasn't really any better than Chisora. After 5 years out? I doubt he'd be competitive around the 20-ish mark when he was probably never any better than about 10th at his best. He'd make a good step up fight for a prospect like Jalolov or even Itauma, or an okay rebuild fight for someone like Whyte or Joyce... But he's not really going to be relevant.
To each their own. Chisora for my money has better signature wins - Pulev, Takam and Szpilka is better than Perez, Liakhovic and Szpilka... He's also given better fighters a consistently rougher ride in fights he lost than Jennings did. If you ask me, Chisora is usually slightly underrated - he was always a tough as boots gatekeeper who gave almost nobody an easy night... Where Jennings is usually overrated based on a rose tinted myth that he gave Wlad a much tougher night than he did - a myth that conveniently allows Jennings a boosted reputation to boost Ortiz reputation to boost Wilder's. Jennings wasn't a world level fighter to be able to walk away for 5 years and still be competitive... Nor is he a good age to be coming back - he'll be 40 by the time he gets back in there.
I agree with a lot there. Chisora is underrated and he absolutely has the better wins. Arguably also beat Helenius, which was a big deal at the time. But I think your are focused on the wrong part of Jennings career: his fights with Wlad and Ortiz. What actually made Jennings were his wins over: Siarhei Liakhovich, Bowie Tupou, Andrey Fedosov, Artur Szpilka and Mike Perez. There were a few more, little known but decent heavyweights. And with the exception of Perez, Jennings showed to be a class above them all. He looked pretty good in those fights. Jennings came back from the Ortiz fights with dominant wins over Martz, Dawejko and Dimitrenko. Well, the Dimitrenko fight was a bit more competitive and had some drama. Jennings absolutely was a solid top 20 guy and nothing about him screamed mediocre. And at his best he was good enough to more than just compete with top 10 opponents. This content is protected
I always had plenty of respect for Jennings, was good enough to get ranked and get a title shot and went 12 rounds with Klitschko and fought admirably. Showed heart despite getting knocked around by Ortiz. Like Badbot said he went on a good run for a brief stretch last decade. I hope he took care of the money he made, had what seemed like a steady decent paying job. I would hate to see him get knocked the **** out for coming back too old and being cannon fodder for someone.
