Postfight Haye was running his mouth with the fact that he went 12 with Wlad, how Wlad "coudln't knock him out", how he was "too elusive for Wlad" and how he nicked three rounds from Wlad.

Thing is: Jennings did all that but actually was trying to win -- unlike Haye. Jennings tried his best to knock Wlad out by coming forward, Haye was flopping to the floor hoping to get get a fraud DQ win. IMO Jennings - who worked a full time job up until 2014 - did much better than David Haye.

    :thumbsup

Good post, but Haye fought a 4 year younger version of Wladimir who had a literal AXE to grind.:nono

To be fair to Haye, unlike Jennings he wasn't a natural heavyweight. He was more like the British Cunningham - elite cruiserweight, mediocre heavyweight. It is still impressive he managed to not get KO'd by a more close to prime Klitschko who at that point was on a big KO spree over decent fighters.

But Jennings wasn't suffering from an horrific, career threatening sore little toe.

Haye was scared of getting stopped. He ran his mouth so much that a stoppage would have been too humiliating. Jennings went in there wanting to win.

If his pinky toe was that bad, maybe he should have pulled out of the fight. Though pulling out of a fight due to injury is the last thin David Haye would ever do :rofl

His performance vs Wlad was not far off from his performance vs SNV. Was his pinky toe hurt then too?

I don't think Haye did as bad as people on this site say he did. He was a threat all the way through and his defense nullified most of Wlad's "trademark" offense.

Most importantly, in this comparison, you are overlooking the tremendous difference that a referee makes. Wladimir was actually admonished for holding in the Jennings fight for nearly the duration. That changes things considerably.

So was Jennings hence the thread. Some people were showering Haye with praise for his "masterful defense". And here's unheralded hobbyist Bryant Jennings - a guy who took up boxing 6 years ago - who achieved exactly the same and managed to look better doing it :deal

I was at the Jennings fight last night.

Sorry for the incomplete post above; mobile ESB is finicky. My whole post didn't go through initially.

To be honest, your sentiments can be construed a different way. Perhaps the fact that Haye (a cruiserweight) and Jennings (a novice) did far better than expected (and everyone expected them both to be spectacularly KO'ed) sheds light on something about Wladimir's difficulties with certain styles.

Haye would have knocked Wlad out last night with that ref.

Generaz protected Wlad and allowed him back hump the big bad boogey man Haye every time he came forward.

Haye came closer to winning and fought a peak version. The reason he came closer is that he had the power to stop Wlad at any point, unlike Jennings. He landed a few good punches but never got the one in that really rattled Wlad.

A good, neutral, and stern referee can change the way a fight plays out in a BIG way. That was my whole point.
