This will be the second high risk, low reward fight Jennings has taken. Just like Ortiz, Rivas is completely unproven as a pro, but very dangerous by the eye test. I think Jennings will win, but he probably won't get the credit he deserves if he does.

Decent fight. Rivas is a bit to top heavy and that muscle mass fatigues him around the midway mark. With Jennings work rate as well I see a late stoppage.

I honestly thought Rivas was done fighting. I vaguely remember him having some eye issues that stopped him from getting cleared to fight, then falling off the map entirely

I'm a big Maldonado fan. Despite his horribly padded record the dude is a blood and guts warriors. That said his chin is gone and it's shown in his recent MMA fights. He gets iced badly here. With his chin though he might have had some success boxing at LHW-CW though. a high level journeyman-fringe contenderish kind of trial horse. He's got some ability but he's nowhere near being a natural HW. He had flab fighting at 205 in the UFC.

This as good of a HW fight that can be made in the division outside of matches involving the belt holders. Figured you'd be fanboying over this one lol. This>>>> Wilder/Fury in all honesty.

Full on believer in the Brazilian curse. But unlike most of those guys Maldonado has shown genuine grit even if not in the realm of boxing. Before his chin was completely eroded I do think he'd take Rivas some rounds and give it a go, but he's been KO'd a couple of times in recent years and clearly isn't the granite chinned heavybag that was showcased in the Teixeira fight. He gets KO'd inside 2 here.

And Rivas has been on his back badly in amateur ring where he was stopped and was unconscious by some now retired Venezuelan amateur. That gives chance to Maldanado who has big punching power, also Rivas has lost his head movement in all of his last fights. His stamina is an issue as well, he fights for first 5 rounds and than his work-rate drops considerably.

Like this fight. I think Jennings takes a competitive but clear decision

If Rivas can't beat Jennings at this point, he needs to look into another line of work.

Why do you always feel the need to autistically bring up some irrelevant amateur fact that bodes almost no relevance in the current context? I seriously don't think you've seen any of Maldonado's fights and are talking out of your ass again. I'm a big fan of Maldonado(of his MMA career that is) But as a boxer he's done nothing but crush tomato cans and this a quantum leap. Rivas may have some issues regarding eye injuries, stamina and possibly his ability to take a punch. But that won't be a factor against Maldonado.

Here's a clip of his last fight which took place in an MMA bout 5-6 months(you know I actually follow his career)

Jennings is a fringe top 10 HW at least, formerly a consensus top 5 HW. No shame losing to someone like that. The division needs more contenders and fringe contenders, not less. This kind of mindset leads to the horrible "0 protecting", don't face anyone mentality that has plagued the division in the modern era, and which we are only now seeing a lot of progress in having more competitive matchups made.

I agree with your basic premise. I am not someone who thinks all these guys protecting their "0" and fighting nobodies is good for the fans (or their development as fighters).

But, I just don't think much of Bryant Jennings. Although he comes in shape, he has no special attributes. He stated late and has below average boxing ability (and ring IQ), is not particularly fast of hand or foot, and has only mediocre power for a heavyweight. In a nutshell, but for the horrendous heavyweight landscape in America, a fighter like Bryant Jennings would be lucky to crack the top 25 fighters.

Had Wlad not MASSIVELY deteriorated as a fighter when he faced Jennings (something that Wlad's following fight against Fury made perfectly clear) he likely would have blasted out Jennings in about 3-4 rounds tops.
