Great post Bogart.:good Tupou is still not a stepping stone and Jennings is not the same fighter as Scott. Scott handled Tupou with angles and speed along with distance in and out. Jennings has the in out abilities but hasn't had all that many rds to polish them, and he's defo no speedy potshotter. Tupou will test Jennings chin, give him rds, and is a live underdog with his punchers chance.
Jeez, Scott finally stepped up and fought someone halfway decent in his 35th pro bout, and people are giving Jennings **** for facing the same exact guy in his 16th? Talk about a double standard. Jennings has fought more 10 rounders than Scott in less than half as many fights.
BY fighting 5 consecutive solid fighters. Yeah, ur right, it's easy to see he's being managed quite well. And for the record......Tupou KOs Audley in more brutal fashion than Price did.
I agree, especially about Tupou testing Jennings chin which, to my knowledge, hasn't been truly tested. Tupou doesn't have a big name but he's an appropriate test at this stage for Jennings.
the Scott-Tupou fight wasn't fan friendly because Tupou can't fight boxers. he needs someone right in front of him. Jeff Mayweather even says so. this Tupou-Jennings fight has potential to be pretty boring as well, unless Jennings wants to bang a little with Tupou on the inside, which would be great for us fans, but obviously dangerous for him. and let's be honest, Jennings isn't as smooth a boxer as Malik Scott, he's still very green and even crude sometimes. I'm interested to see if Jennings can get Tupou out of there, and he has a full 12 rounds. and of course, if he does take a good shot from Tupou, how he reacts.
No problem with this fight in and of itself, but it's a disgrace how none of the U.S. prospects will fight each other. Not that guys like Boytsov are any better. Seems like everyone's happy to somehow work their way in to title shots with Klitschko (that they won't take anyways) by not fighting any other contenders We need more matchups like Chisora-Helenius. Let some of these up and comers (or the old, lazily matched Scott) start weeding each other out. Show some damn ambition.
That's a fair point; I just think people are expecting more from Jennings at this point despite being so much further back in his development on paper - due to his increased exposure and having stepped up more. Scott's about the right speed for him about now, I'd say. Fighting a guy coming off an uncompetitive L just leaves the door open for criticism.
Infinitely worse than that he actually got stopped by him, feather fists and all Scott has only stopped two guys including Bowie in the last 8 years and the other guy was some 13-3 novice.
It was an awful fight. (Scott vs. Tupou) :barf Even the stoppage was boring. At least Jennings should get rid of him in more entertaining fashion.
True, but also because Jennings looks so good right now, especially after his last fight. - plus we're so bloody desperate for some life in the division. I think, for instance, that Jennings-Adamek would be an even bout. If Jennings were to win, which is likely, he'd then be ready for a Chisora or an Arreola. It's easy to say "he's still young and why rush?" but it's also fair to say: WTF are you afraid of? Jump into the pan & see if you can stand the heat. If not, you still learned something by fighting a good opponent, and you'e that much closer to reaching your goals. Everyone's so afraid of getting a loss on their record, that they avoid experience-gaining fights. IMO Jennings has reached the point where fighting a Tupou-level fighter is just wasting valuable time. **** or get off the damn pot.
