BS that Cottos belt is on the line at 145

It was bull**** in the past, it is bull**** at the present and it will be bull**** in the future as well.....at least the ones where a title was on the line....

 

Christ, are people whinning about this **** again? No, I don't. There have been several instances of high profile catch weight title fights in the past. I really don't understand why so many people are worked up about it. It's only a bull**** paper title to begin with.

Team Pacquiao wanted the fight @ 143. It's Cotto who wanted 145. Team Pac agreed to fight at the weight Cotto wanted.

Cotto is free to weigh in @147 if he so desires. He'll just have to pay a fine of $1 million for every pound over the weight he stipulated.

 

No it's not BS. There's several precedences for titles being on the line in catchweight situations; Leonard vs Lalonde being one. The bottom line is that as long as the title is being staked at a weight below the division's limit then it should very well be on the line. If Pavlik fought Calderon at a catchweight of 150 lbs then as far as I'm concerned Pav's belts should be on the line.

im a fan of catchweights between the top fighters in each division. the camps should know better than anyone else what their fighters limits are. if they agree to a weight, it says to me that they think they can level that advantage and still win the fight. this is, in my opinion, the fairest way to approximate a h2h fantasy match up.
i dont worry too much about the politics of the scrap. as long as its a fair meeting in the middle of advantages, the best fighter should win.

 

I don't know about cheater but he definately had an unfair advantage, same as Cottto would if the fight was at 147.

 

IMO: i no longer care about the trinket. I think the 145lb weigh-in limit is fair. the clause to pay money for every pound over is fair. pulling the plug if one fighter goes over 147 is fair too (don't need a circus).

Having the title on the line is for advertising purposes. It sells more to the general public. In the end, both fighters will get more money. So one must understand that Cotto intelligently allowed the title on the line to set it up as a title fight and therefore make more money.

If i were an adviser, I could tell Cotto to just focus on making his previous weigh-in which was 146, put the title on the line, get more viewers to watch, pay the money for that one pound over, and LET's just get the fight ON!

 

No, it's the other way around. The rule is pretty simple. A fighter should come at specified weight during weigh in. It's the fighter who's taking advantage of the rule come fight night

 

If Cotto weighs-in at 147 yeah it should be on the line but he should still pay the penalties for breaking contract.

If Cotto weighs-in at 145 it will and should be on the line. Its when the fight is above the weight division limit is when the title shouldnt be on the line.

 

In a way, 145 is a deferred negotiation tactic. The fight could have been at 147 the entire time with Cotto already getting a much lesser share of the purse, or Cotto can try to make 145 in order to make more money.

What's the big deal with the 145 pound catchweight? Why not blame the original inventors of the 145 pound division title fights, Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker. Too much hypocrits on ESB.

No... it's a welterweight belt not a 147 pound belt, dumb****. So as long as the fight takes place above 140 and at, or below 147 then the belt should be on the line. :deal
