Sounds very promising, one thing BN need is a cash boost and better production, BT can deliver that.

The BT channel has to be on Sky as per the Premier League contract. BT is supposed to cost around 15 quid a month so it will be more expensive than the current tenner a month for just Boxnation. What could happen is that Boxnation will carry on as a standalone channel for a tenner a month. Details for the BT channel should be released soon.

No, BT is a completely different kettle of fish to Setanta and ESPN. When these companies have challenged Sky for sports rights Sky have still been the big bully. This time Sky are up against a competitor that dwarfs them in terms of financial resources and thats why they're seriously worried this time. BT is a monster and are the heavyweights here.

They've decided that their televised sports arm is key in becoming a dominant player in terms of telephone, tv and internet bundles. That's understandable really as it's their infrastructure that the majority of internet and phone providers use. BT are presently willing to pay over the odds just to grab people's attention so in terms of potential big fights coming to Boxnation it would be good in the short term at least. But from our point of view it means more money as sports get fragmented even more.

I'm not sure if BT generates more cash revenue than Sky - I'll need to look that up.

    *Edit*

According to the BBC, Wikipedia and Sky News...

    BT:
    Sky:
Like for like, BT makes better profit, pre-tax. So probably has more capital to reinvest. Either way, BT's infrastructure gives it a serious advantage in terms of combined offerings.

Yeah and apparently it's not that simple when comparing Sky and BT's net worth. Was speaking to a guy not so long ago who's got one of those finance jobs with half a dozen screens in front of him. He said it's difficult evaluating accurately the net worth of a company like BT because of its different physical and commerical assets.

I remember one example he mentioned was something about the move to a fibre network meaning BT are effectively sitting on a huge copper mine as it controls all the old copper cabling. This is a good article on the Sky v BT situation:

As you rightly point out, those financials are hard to verify fully. For example, an accountant at one of the companies I've written for told me about its accruals policy. Basically, in each department's account they hold back additional budget by creating accruals. There's stuff that's been "unpaid" for three year, so the money just sits in the budget - just in case.

With a major player like BT, that £2.5bn the journalist quotes could be a lot more. The relative costs of buying BoxNation and the boxing in general is tiny. They've obviously decided they're climbing in for the long-haul now - and the real money isn't just in the TV.

As long as Box Nation implement some quality control I will be happy. This bill coming up from ***** is class, but you have to question what else he is going to do for the next 5 months on BN. Obviously Wazza has recognised that its the big shows that bring in subscribers and he probably wants to have as many subs as possible when the station crosses over.

If we have BT Showing 20 Domestic Cards per year, Sky showing 20, Channel 5 showing 10 were in a good position. and most of the good US cards will get picked up.

BT = British Telecom. They are a rival to Sky.

Its a bit like Direct TV getting a new competitor.

The UK equivalent of AT&T or like that. The nation's telecoms provider - phone, broadband, etc.

It's a good idea as far i'm concerned. If BT buy boxnation it will become part of their sports package if not just taking all the boxing shows and putting it on its sports channel. This BT venture is serious and they will get good subscription levels, the one issue with boxnation is the long term visability of fighters to the casual fans, who we need to get interested in the sport as much as possible.

As long as we get the same amount of fights, on a bigger platform, great news IMO.

Agreed. The one time of the week without much live sport is the one time that boxing really does best - Saturday night!

this is what I hope happens. If you take away the repeats theres a max of 6 original programming and live boxing on each week.

I hope that BT have just bought the contracts from BN.
