They'll buy format rights, etc. I think the brand is quite good - I can see them calling a regular boxing programme by that name. Bunce's BoxNation Boxing Bonanza!
I would love to see a midweek boxing at least once a month. for the smaller level fights. like the Box Academy stuff. One of the supposed posatives about Box Nation is that fighters would be more active. although this never really happened, it would be nice. Have some English title main events and then 2 6 rounders.
I'd think that's the most likely option, if there's any truth in this. BT are going to be initially launching 2 channels, now they've got a decent bit of football in at the moment, with undoubtedly more to come as well as Tennis and rugby i beleive but that won't be enough to cover all their schedule. Boxing can help do that, and with the added bonus of bringing in a good amount of subscribers and BT don't need to pay to run a seperate channel.
I confess to feeling off-balance right now - we're agreeing on these things. Some more low-level fights, like Coldwell's and VIP promotions, would be welcome. Give some coverage to those coming through, then tag the best of the action into a highlights show before the bigger events. Bunce is fine as the colour commentator/analyst, but without Andy Kerr or someone similar he's brash and off-putting at times. It needs to be somone younger, IMO, otherwise you just jaded old tools like Adam Smith, Dave Darts and Johnny Nelson. Let's be honest though, it's going to be Rawling in the hot-seat and one of Frank's fighters in the analyst role. Sad, really.
Yes Sky's trousers are shaking because BT's business plan will not be so vulnerable in its initial phase as Setanta's was. BT have the clout to be able to absorb initial losses and you'd assume they've factored that into their long term planning. The money BT have already invested indicates it doesn't look like a passing whim. BT have actually said judge them in 10 yrs not 10 months so this is gonna be an almighty tussle by the looks of it between Sky and BT. The footballers will be laughing even louder to the bank if Al Jazeera go for the football next time as well and drive the price up even more stupidly high. Am thinking of changing internet providers and was just checking out Plusnet. Turns out BT owns Plusnet. Pies and fingers!
Loaded are showing the commonwealth light-welterweight title fight between doyle and limond next monday night :good
Well, thankfully you're on-board to lend your brand and marketing expertise to the whole world. Phew!
The brand "Pro-Box" on Screensport worked well back in the day. Boxnation is a decent name for a boxing brand on a sports channel.
Lets be real. W*rren will have the only contract and will do as he pleases in terms if match ups. I have processed this now and am actually a but gutted. I thought the end was close for Wazza.
And we were doing so well. If Saint Eddie was doing this, you'd be jizzing all over ESB about how it was the future of boxing. Frank has been, overall, a good thing for boxing. The issue was that he had no competition which allowed him to become complacent and now he does. There has NEVER been a monopoly that has ended well for customers. Never. If anything, being with BT will force Frank to improve the product because it won't just be his channel. He'll be a content provider again. And make no mistake, if BT starts getting good audience numbers, your hero Eddie will be over there as soon as he can.
When have I ever asked for a Monopoly? It will take years for it to properly compete with Sky Sports in terms of product & production. and if anybodys going to jump ship....surely it would be the person the company thats been on 5 different broadcasters in the past 20 years and not the company thats been on one. I would have liked to have seen the end of ***** and promoters like Coldwell & Fearon given a shot. I don't see ***** as a forward thinking promoter and don't like the way he manages & treats his stable at all levels. nothing to do with wanting Hearn to succeed.
Because Rob thinks that Eddie's approach is the one and only true light to boxing's salvation. He's said as much. I'm pointing out that he criticises Frank way too heavily because of his own personal agenda. Eddie's relevant because he's the first real competition Frank has had in 20 years, and his major contribution has been to decrease the amount of fights on TV. My point has always been that a) promoters are untrustworthy and in it for money rather than the good of the sport, and b) more boxing on TV is a good thing. There's no reason for Rob to suggest that Frank working with BT will lead to the old Sky situation. If anything, it'll need to work hard to differentiate its boxing product from Sky's. That's why.
