Sorry to be posting so much about Buakaw recently, but alot's happeneing in his world at the moment and I found this story from a few days ago: http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/4/16/2952862/buakaw-por-pramuk-benchamek-jiu-jitsu-mma-muay-thai May be of interest to some of the MMA guys here. Maybe only a rumour or means nothing, but if he is planning a move to MMA my view is he shouldn't do it, he's a ****in bonafida card carrying Muay Thai Baddass ATG. :bowdown Cos of his reputation he'll get matched to heavily in MMA and look bad. He has nothing to gain or prove, but maybe he needs the dough a couple of big MMA fights may get him. Any views guys?
IIRC Flea mentioned this somewhere here...... Well, if he trains BJJ a lot...who knows ? I certainly would love to watch......
Hey Vic. Sorry didn't realise Flea had already posted. I think he's just way to grounded in MT to have the time to learn and turn over to MMA with any real quality, but who knows he's a true bad ass maybe I shouldn't under estimate him.
Oh no problem at all......He said that in a post IIRC....was not a thread.... I think maybe against B level fighters he would be fine with a decent defensive jiu-jitsu......
Maybe, I don't know enough about the ground side of MMA. I don't really understand how little or how much he'd need to learn in order to hold his own and survive on the ground.
He better start training freestyle wrestling. BJJ isn't going to stop him from getting dropped on his head.
I don't watch much kickboxing but isn't he regarded as a good but not great fighter among pundits? I've only seen a few of his fights, one of them being the one where he got KO'd by punches. Kinda get the sense he has a glass jaw. Maybe he's just bored and wants to try MMA. Nothing wrong with that. The odds would be against him though. Doesn't hurt to try I guess. Oops, wait, I suppose in a combat sport it does hurt. But it's only temporary.
"I don't watch much kickboxing but isn't he regarded as a good but not great fighter among pundits?" Not to be rude but that is abundantly clear by your post, your obvious ignorance has probably saved you form a vicious verbal pasting. :ko "I've only seen a few of his fights, one of them being the one where he got KO'd by punches. Kinda get the sense he has a glass jaw. " :stir Your talking about about a 29 year old that has had most of his more than 400 fights since the age of 8 on the toughest and most competative Muay Thai circuit in the world the Thai circuit. Half his record reads: 204 Wins (52 KO's), 21 Losses, 12 Draws. I can assure you he has no glass jaw. Having fought many lesser Thais than Buakaw I can affirm that glass jaws are banned in Thailand, they simple don't exist there. :bart Only foreigners are allowed to bring them in. :yep "Maybe he's just bored and wants to try MMA. Nothing wrong with that. The odds would be against him though. Doesn't hurt to try I guess. Oops, wait, I suppose in a combat sport it does hurt. But it's only temporary." I've just realised tour a stray from the main forum, your trolling right?!:nono
I did make a thread (coupled with Fedor Vs Gracie, which seems a really good fight now we've got Rizzo) but that was his first day, and from the tone it didn't seem like he was actually doing any grappling. Still, glad to discuss further
He should get on the first plane to Singapore and get away from Por Pramuk and hook up with Evolve MMA. If he wants to do it of course. He needs wrestling and BJJ coaching ad infinitum, and with the likes of Kongtoranee Payakaroon he'll be sure to keep his Muay Thai sharp as well. Would absolutely love to see him put a good year in and get a gig in One FC. They don't match their guys horrifically, he'd could be given someone of similar MMA experience :hey
Say what? I is a troll? I suppose the cat got out of the bag the moment you looked at my avatar. Need to work on my cover-up. But if it makes you feel any better I was only half trolling. Some of the things I mentioned are legit - such as the idea that Buakaw likely wouldn't fare well in MMA. Tell me, why would I receive a "verbal pasting" for referring to Buakaw as a good fighter? Last time I checked that's actually a compliment. But perhaps in your world those who don't worship him are thought of as lesser than you. Silly.
Relax relax can't you tell my post was a bit tounge in cheek? All the glass jaw stuff? Anyway, I'm a Pacfan so nothing to do with your avatar. I'm not a Buakaw nutcase, although I have a bucket load of respect for him and admire his fight style, just giving him some well needed love at a time his world has gone to **** fast. No, I agree Buakaw shouldn't make the move and probably won't as I mentioned earlier. I'm a total Muay Thai purist and in Muay Thai cirlcles he is an ATG no doubt, cos of his achivement's outside Thailand in the Kickboxing world as well as Thailand and the MT world. It's just your post felt abit unfair towards him that's all.
Thanks Flea, sounds like good break and plan for him if he fancies it, but like you I don't think he will. I didn't know it was even possible for him to do that and stay so near to home. Thanks, MMA is world I really know nothing about. How is Kongtoranee doing? Is he any good? (Can't imagine him being crap!:yep) What's with the Gs in the avatar? Who are they?
Well TBH, I've only recently started watching Muay Thai again...but I'm very impressed with Baukaw and Petrosyan...two great fighters. The only way I'd like to see Baukaw in with MMA guys would be in a stand up exhibition fight...but would much rather see Baukaw stay in his own realm of fighting. Peace.
Good to know you are a Muay Thai and Kickboxing fan also Dpw....because you are one of my favorite posters in Classic......
