I was young when I saw this fight live and I have a question for you who have viewed the tape since. In the 1st round Duran caught Kenny and Buchanan's gloves touched the canvas, I believe the ref called this as a knockdown, right? Didn't Ken also catch Duran with a flurry in this round and Roberto went to the bottom rope, but it was called a slip? Let me know will you, I only saw it that once.

Duran almost fell through the ropes, I think he slipped and was caught almost at the same time, had he touched down it would have been an authentic knockdown. It was a very quick incedent and he was clearly not hurt I think he was just over keen to get on with things - it was a great fight.

Duran fell into the ropes at one point, but didn't touch the canvas. I don't think the ref even called it anything (slip or otherwise).

yeh buchanan kinda brushed the canvas with a glove and duran got hit with a flurry off balance and fell in to the ropes.

an amazing fight the best involving a scottish fighter IMO

Duran to this day still says Buchanan was his toughest opponent.

My opinion is that if Duran would not have come along Buchanan would have been one of the great lightweights.

You're right, had it not been for Duran, Buchanan and De Jesus would have dominated the division. For me they are both top 10 all time lighweights, and I particularly like the style of De Jesus

There was a lot of talent floating around at 135 back in that day and I would put Rodolfo Gonzalez right in with the Buchanan- DeJesus mix.
