I am sure a lot of you remember Buck Smith. He fought more than 200 times from 1987 through 1999 and had another 10 or so fights in the 2000s. Although he fought a few top fighters such as Buddy McGirt and Mark Breland, he made his living fighting a bunch of guys who could charitably be called journeymen. This level of opposition helped Smith record 120 knockouts which ranks in the top ten in boxing history.

My question is this. Along with Smith's 183-20-2 record he fought in more than 20 fights with the result of No Contest-No Decision. Does anyone have any idea what those NC-NDs were all about.

I remember him for coming to the UK and stopping the brilliant Kirkland Laing

They were exhibitions that may or may not have been billed that way.

Am guessing might be linked to fight fixing? He, and other fighters and the manager/promoter were involved in some pretty dodgy activities at points.

"A headline bout a long way from the bad old days when boxing magazines refused to print the results of Knucklehead promotions because they couldn’t verify who’d actually been in the ring, Gibbons’ career represents the best and the worst of the sport."

Did n't realise he 'fought' Jorge Kawhagi too! Is there any footage of that, really wonder how much he made from that job. Given that he beat Laing and Wangila obviously a capable fighter on his night but also involved in the worst side of the sport too.

I knew there was some shady stuff happening but this adds context. Thanks for posting.

Welcome. He's an interesting figure. Obviously capable and talented, wonder how he went the route he did. And the question of how good he could have been if he had different chances and opportunities.
