Unless Canelo can make 160, I don’t see a fight with Crawford happening, ever. Crawford turns 36 soon and is giving up too much size against Canelo. Canelo has fought at 175 and did not look small at the weight. Bud is still elite at 154, maybe, but anything north of that weight is still undetermined. Even though fans don’t like to admit it, they have weight classes for a reason. Most of these matches where guys move up too far and fight outside their natural weight are not good fights. I hope Bud moves to 154 and rematches Spence before fighting Charlo for the belts. Those are good fights. Anything involving a catch weight or hydration clauses or jumping multiple weight classes is bull****. Remember Canelo Khan?
Indeed, every fighter is different, but the differences are often readily apparent and obvious. Bivol, for example, is a noticeably small light heavyweight; his height and frame is between Caleb Plant's and Billy Joe Saunders. He was originally going to compete in the SMW division but the money wasn't as good as it was at LHW. That's different from Roy Jones eating himself up and then boiling himself back down to weight class after weight class. That "win" vs Tarver was so unconvincing it was as good as a defeat in the eyes of the public, which is why the rematch happened to begin with. Whatever intangibles Jermell has, the fact is he's a fighter who is more than a year between fights, who has complained about making 154 recently, going to go up not one but TWO weight classes - 12 pounds! - and getting paid a lot of money to do it. Suddenly he's going to have the motivation to go down two weight classes to eat a beating, when 168 is still there with Canelo closer to retirement then not, or 160 which is ripe open for the picking and getting another undisputed feather in his cap? He ducked the smoke with Tim Tszuyu, the hell makes you think he wants Crawford?
And what suggests that Jermell is going to "eat himself up" to 168? I highly doubt Jermell is going to eat himself up or put on the kind of weight Roy did to move up to HW. I wouldn't be surprised if Jermell weighs in the low 160s for Canelo. He didn't duck anything. He's been calling out Canelo for ages, he wasn't going to lose a Canelo peyday to seek out Timmy who does nothing for him at this point. Oh I don't know, maybe because Bud just beat his stablemate and friend Spence, and maybe because Bud just became Undisputed and the opportunity for another Undisputed vs Undisputed fight exists for Jermell which woudl be history making and hugely lucurative. Maybe because Top Rank has a great record vs PBC fighters and Jermell wants to do something about that and get a big win for PBC. Maybe because Bud specifically pointed at him and called him out in the crowd while he was KOing Spence. You'd be blind not to see the motivation for Jermell to fight Bud at this point.
Getting up is not the problem; it's the coming back down that is. Because the "coming down to" IS CURRENTLY ALREADY A PROBLEM. If moving up and down weights was even remotely as easy as you casually suggest, then moving up and down between weight classes would never be an issue. He's been milking a hand injury for over a year while hoping against hope someone beats the Aussie so he wouldn't have to. Calling out Canelo is like calling out Mayweather back in the day. You aren't being brave; you want a retirement fund. Sorry that I'm not giving you credit for that. The only difference between Jermell and Demetrius Andrade is that he got the payday. Jermell saw his own flesh and blood get the taste slapped out of their mouth and has done nothing about it except maybe laugh at his girl beating up Jermall's, you think he's a ride-or-die friend like that? That's why Bud hates him and his punk brother; they're fake tough guys who get slapped by Jared Hurd, Caleb Plant, and duck behind security vs David Benavidez. They're punks. If he gets in the ring with Crawford it will be because he was pressured into it by outside forces or the money was somehow too good to pass up. He will never get in the ring for "pride" because that's not worth the beating. Not sure I blame him, either. You are giving far greater credit to his sense of camaraderie and brotherhood than I do.
Daddy al will force charlo to fight crawford. You dont think charlo wants a canelo and crawford payday? Especially if he does decent vs canelo.
I garuntee after bud is 3x unified he will have pull to get canelo to 160. Canelo on the down swing from all that ped use. Muscle is easy to burn. besides, crawford has a bigger frame then canelo. Imagine people screaming for canelo to fight benny but saying canelo too big for crawford.....hahahaha
This is all going to depend on whether he makes 168 with added muscle or just water and fat. If it’s with muscle he will be a very tough time slimming back down to 154.
who wants to see it? casuals dont. Hard cores dont. Mismatch at any weight at any point in their careers. skill matters
If only Canelo was to fight Benevidez next So we could get bud vs Mel Charlo undisputed x 3 Sweep $takes!
