Oh yes definitely. No doubt at all. I see what you mean, Buddy would give Holmes a good old fashioned ass kicking..
Both of these guys were big men with elite punching power and neither were really known for taking it much. I think Cooney was a bit more skilled based on what I’ve seen in film so I’ll give him the edge. But in truth anyone can win a matchup like this.
You'd think Cooney but Baer was tough .. he had a brawl w Abe Simon where he himself was on the verge of going down but survived and won by TKO .. he definitely had the better chin and was tougher ..
Cooney's got a break here. He's up against a guy cruder than himself. Cooney gets an angle or gets off first and takes Buddy out. It' s pure PPV in today's market though.
Buddy Baer Max Baer Smokey "the" Baer Any of them cracks the china chin and crushes the pea sized heart of the cherry picker bum known as "Cocaine" Gerry Cooney.
Buddy Baer was probably Gerry Cooney's speed, he relished on feasting on ancient relics to make himself look unbeatable, I do not buy the balogna that Gerry was a tall vicious monster, he was to the fighters from the local rest homes, Ken Norton and Jimmy Young too, why not throw in Duane Bobick for good measure, Lol.
That is for sure, Cooney was a political pawn, he only beat people who were already put our to pasture. Management's fault or not, only using a fighter to bring in revenue sounds pretty selfish to me. What ever happened to developing a potential contender? He was not ready to fight Larry Holmes, who was not ancient yet.
