So hold up man.... the fact that NO TRAINER would have won in those fights is not the point??? lol...

When a trainer has their hands on true world class fighters... they usually keep hold for a long time, meaning other trainers get the left overs, or the other top top top fighters go to them because they get an aura of 'winning' about them.

Fact is... Buddy has been plauged with fighters that simply will not beat the best in their divisions (which happen to be the 'big fights')

So the fact that there is not a lot, or no other trainers that have as many high profile losses as buddy doesnt mean anything to me because... most of them are training the talents and fighters that are beating buddys brewsters, gattis, and malignaggis.. lol.

Put Hopkins, Wlad, Hatton, Cotto, SRL, Hearns, Trinidad, Mosley, ect, ect with Buddy and he would be considered a 'good trainer' because he wins.

Put Gatti, Malignaggi, Brewster, ect with guys like nacho, steward, ect... on a CONSISTENT basis, they would have very differant reps.

    That being said...

again, im not saying that these guys are not better then him... i think they are due to differant reasons, but i still think the guy gets **** on way too much for his fighters own shortcomings.

    imo ;)

To judge mcgirt based on a few fights where his fighters lost seems ridiculous to me.

Gatti-Mayweather...Gatti was a 5-1 underdog. In hindsight, he should've been a much worse underdog but he had a few decent wins and a shitload of fans.

Paulie-Hatton...In the end, Buddy can't fight for Paulie.

I don't know if McGirt is a good trainer or bad trainer. Nobody does. It's ignorant to think you know who the good and bad trainers are...There's no legitimate way to determine.

Yeah, Steward did great with Taylor and Andy Lee.. huh?

Get the **** out of here.

The trainer ain't **** at the top level, they get the guy in shape, but the fighter fights. Is it Buddy's fault that Paulie NEVER ONCE TOOK HIS ****ING ADVICE? Is it Buddy's fault that Paulie chose to duck and hold 20 times a round?

Nobody could have trained Gatti to beat Maywether, because we all knew it'd take a lucky punch for Gatti to win.

Same with Brewster v Wlad 2.

Just like are you going to credit Maywether for the way Hatton won? Because honestly, I saw pretty much the old Hatton in there. That's not entirely bad, but still.. it was the old Hatton.

Buddy takes on a lot of fighters and only spends a small amount fo time with them. They are not schooled by him. We have not seen a "Buddy McGirt fighter". Like Cus D'Amato (peek-boo style) or Angelo Dundee (jab, jab , jab and effective movement) or the Petronelli's (with grit and forward but smart aggression). Buddy is like the Emporer's New Clothes. Someone said that he was a great trainer and then a lot of boxers flocked to him, As a result he has made a lot of money.

McGirt is a very good trainer. He has done very well for many fighters. In recent fights... you talk about how his fighter loses.... but can you think of any of those fighters who were favored to win in the first place? If you listened in the corner, he was giving the right advice. Buddy can't go into the ring himself to perform for his fighters. All he can do is give the correct advice. It is up to his fighter to go out there and execute.

MAybe Buddy had money on an 11th round win for Hatton. Malignaggi was not exactly hurt at the time the nonce started to wave the towel.

His recent track record has not been that great, but he goes up in my estimation after what he did last night.. It is a brave cheif second who takes charge and calls his fighter off.. Save Paulie for another day.. He was taking punches that were very unnecessary, he was on a loser.. Buddy did good !

I would love for someone to explain to me why on earth Buddy should NOT have stopped that fight? Exactly how does it help Paulie's career, or life in general that he continues to take serious punishment with absolutely no chance to win? We need more trainers like Buddy, who aren't afraid to make that tough decision. Had Paulie went another round of getting his head beat on, and something tragic happen... everyone would be talking about how there was no reason for him to be fighting the entire fight anyways.... and how Buddy or the ref should have stepped in when he was taking punishment and obviously couldn't win.

he trains alot of underdogs, but most of the time his magic doesn't work. IMO hes gives great advice. His fighters just can't execute....
Sorry to change the subject, but he should have let Paulie finish.

Paulie had no chance to win that fight. He should have let Paulie continue to be punished like this....

    Why?

A great cornerman doesn't take his fighter's pride into account. I respect Paulie for wanting to finish the fight... but it isn't Buddy's job to make sure that Paulie's pride doesn't get bruised. There are more serious things at stake such as life, health, future, ect...
