Part of being a trainer is seeing what your charge can do. Finding his best attributes and refining those attributes.

McGirt just hasn't done that. Instead of utilizing the strengths of his boxers he tries to get them to fight the way he would fight.

Plain and simple, thats why he is successful with guys like Paulie, Tarver. But he teaches everybody to fight the same. Same thing with Steward.

That is a valid criticism. You do need the right combination of fighter and trainer. However, Vernon didn't lose that fight last night because McGirt was trying to get him to box. Forrestt is a boxer at heart. Vernon lost last night because he didn't get into championship shape and faded in the last half of the fight. And that is something Buddy has almost no control over. It is up to the fighter to get in shape to fight.

It just pisses me off when you read a bunch of internet junkies slamming someone who despite his flaws is a genius of boxing.

McGirt was encouraging Forrest to fight inside with Mora. That is just not what Forrest is good at. When he gives up his jab and fights inside he loses. He was doing fine just keeping Mora on the end of his jab.

I just couldn't believe the advice Forrest was getting in the corner. And yes it is partially his fault but you cannot just absolve McGirt of blame too.

Steward is a great trainer, his resume speaks for itself. He definitely has had some set backs over the last couple years, but his record in championship matches is top notch. He turned Wlads career completely around, from glass chinned joke, to the number one Heavyweight in the world in just a few short years, after his loss to Brewster in April 04, he was able to train and will him to another title shot in April of 06 against Bryd.

Buddy is not even in the same league as Manny, who says more than "Do what we worked on in the gym baby".
