Buddy McGirt Vs Terence Crawford

Crawford UD.

 

I pick Crawford. I think Buddy was a little overrated. I never forget his fight against Taylor. He was outclassed and outsped early. Nice wins over Warren and an old Howard Davis.

 

McGirt was a master boxer and a durable one at that. This would have been a good fight. But Bud’s weakness has yet to be exploited. I think Crawford earns a decision

 

Not to mention the win at welterweight Simon Brown who hadn't been beaten in 6 years - his best performance ever.

 

I think his statement was a bit off TBH, he's saying Buddy McGirt is a bit overrated. But who has Terence Crawford beaten ? i like Crawford as a fighter but if anything Crawford is a bit overrated himself, at 34 years old and 38 fights into his career his resume is very average, there's no real standout victories on his record. There's not a single fighter Crawford has beaten that i wouldn't favour McGirt to beat.

Buddy McGirt's schooling of Simon Brown, is better than anything Terence Crawford has on his resume so far, and there's also underrated wins vs Jacobs, Oliva, Warren, Baltazar.

Good point about Crawford's age. Again, the fact that a fighter, at 34, can be held in such high esteem shows how shallow today's talent pool is.

Ray Leonard was 34 against Terry Norris, Hagler had stopped fighting at 34 having slipped so far. Chavez at 34 was losing badly to Oscar, Whitaker was getting trounced by Tito.

Boxing's a young man's game. Or it was. The fact that so many of today's lb for lb top ten are at an age when heroes of yesteryear were finished shows how little competition there is to hold a place in the top echelons and how the top practitioners of today don't need to keep practising, wearing their bodies out, to stay at the top.

 

That was a surprising win I thought. I thought Brown would be too strong for him.

 

Buddy McGirt. no hesitation.

 

he was rather inconsistent, which was my issue with him. He had good wins and then some crashes like against Meldrick.

 

McGirt is one very skilled fighter.

 

Surprising but undeniably brilliant. McGirt was in the zone that night.

 

Buddy beat alot of fighters. Baltazar,Warren, Davis jr., Jacobs,Brown, the list goes on and on.
This would be a hard fight for both.

 

He was a surprising fighter and had nice counterpunching. That Howard Davis punch was unexpected. I thought he would do better against Meldrick, but Meldrick's speed was just too much. Buddy did do better against Pernell than I thought he would.

 

Yeah Meldrick was fighting at a very high level IMO. His mad handspeed and workrate made him a very tough proposition for a technician. I mean he was seconds off a legendary win over Chavez.
