McGirt used to be one of the best trainers out there. Now, all of his fighters seem to look bad and/or get beat. Sechew Powell is the latest McGirt loser as he just got stopped by some chump. Will anyone continue to hire this guy?
I remember it for me, was when Gatti squared off against Mayweather. I haven't seen a McGirt fighter win since then.
Tarver has strung together 3 straight wins, and picked up a title. Malignaggi is undefeated with McGirt and picked up a title, but he looked poor in all but one fight with McGirt.
malignaggi beat n'dou in may, but looked horribly unimpressive. so as far as good performances go from his fighters, there aren't many at all.
Right, but I haven't seen (everybody note the words italicized and underlined in bold) Tarver fight since '06 and I only watched Malignaggie v Cotto.
I didn't say you did see those fights. I was just filling you in considering you said you never saw those fights.
**** that. When the trend shows that overall, his fighters have been looking like ****, he's not doing a good job training. I don't doubt his technical skills, but if he's not getting his charges mentally ready for hard outings, he's missing a huge part of what being a trainer is all about.
I see your point. However, when you're fighters are constantly underperforming, then some of the blame lies on you as a trainer. McGirt had no problem with all the positive press he was receiving when his fighters were kicking ass. You have to expect him to get some criticism when his fighters are performing poorly.
young gun Fransisco 'el gato' Figueroa just picked up Buddy "McCurse" recently as well. I think he is a decent trainer, maybe not the best but he is decent and in the end its more of bad luck that his fighters lose not really his fault. Trainers don't go in there to fight for their fighters.
McGirt is poison. I think his glasses cause fighters to become mesmerized, falling into self-destructive paths of laziness and sloppiness. When they stare into those shades in between rounds, they always end up failing. If you look closely, Tarver wasn't looking into McGirt's eyes.. he was looking to the side during every conversation with Buddy in between rounds.
To say McGirt is going thru a ruff patch is an Understatement. it still don't change my mind about his potential to develop a young fighter but when he's hired on and takes over a Vet I always cringe and expect the worst. Step your Training Game up Buddy!
Buddy is not a good trainer, his corner advice is down right terrible, it usually sounds something like this "Keep your hands up baby, he cant hurt you." This after being dropped and rocked severely. Buddy just seems to give the opposite advice to his fighters all the time, he tells sluggers to box, and vice versa. And I thought Goosen was bad back in the early 2000's, Buddy has him beat IMO.
