Wilder and Joshua have sat down in a room. Both of them without management and have agreed to a fight in the UK, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff for December this year. Eddie Hearn and Al Haymon have spared no expense on the undercard, how would you build it? 10 fights, plus the main event. 11. Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder 10. Alexander Povetkin vs Kubrat Pulev 9. Derrick Chisora vs Joseph Parker 8. Devin Haney vs Teofimio Lopez 7. Lawrence Okolie vs Krzysztof Glowacki 6. Charlie Edwards vs Kosei Tanaka 5. Katie Taylor vs (insert mando) 4. Josh Kelly vs Amir Khan 3. Joshua Buatsi vs Callum Johnson 2. Tommy Coyle vs Anthony Crolla 1. Lewis Ritson vs Jack Catteral
AJ and Wilder will want all the spoils and given the interest the main event would generate worldwide, don't expect the undercard to be up to much.
When has a card like that ever happened? Some of those fighters would want a fortune (comparatively) for those fights. A very good undercard with fighters like the above takes away their share of the spoils. Makes zero financial sense for the top two fighters, their promoters or the TV companies. As they are all gonna earn less.
I'm also going to ignore the fact you said money is not an issue and totally avoid this hypothetical situation you have created. Screw you man.
Great card. Except for number 7. It'll ruin the atmosphere, spread the snoozefest disease to the rest of the fights after it and we'll have 12 rounds of complete garbage from Okolie. Honestly, Okolie is worse than Fury in terms of putting us all to sleep. If Okolie isn't the most boring fighter in history I'll eat my hat.
The Joshua v wilder fight being made is the most unrealistic. That happens 2021 or 2022 at the earliest. By that time them fights on the undercard will be long gone. It will be funny going back to this thread if it does happen in the future. We will go through them chisora retired and so on.
I think the best way to play this is say build the undercard like a UFC one. There are 14 fights on UFC 238 the two biggest odds on favourites are 1/7 and 1/14 the other 12 fights are close enough to 50/50 fights as reasonable. (I.e. 4/7 v 2/1) There are 9 fights on the Joshua card two smallest odds for the winner are 1/4 and 1/6. Everything else is at least 1/14 with a few 1/33 and 1/100. There’s more money to throw about in boxing at present so build a card based on that. With 9 fights on the card below Wilder and Joshua all with relatively even odds. So I’d have; Chisora v Parker Callum Smith v Kovalev at light heavy Usyk v Povetkin Dave Allen v Fabio wardley Okolie v Lebedev Kelly v Garcia Buatsi v Johnson Farmer v Quigg Cordina v Selby or Crolla
1) AJ vs Wilder 2) Price/Allen winner vs H fury 3) Buatsi vs Richards 4) Riakporhe vs Chambers 5) cheeseman vs Fowler 6) kelly vs Lerraja 7) khan vs Brook 8) Gill vs Lowe Ps I think Katie might lose this weekend
