anyone know where this fight is available outsid eof DVD. It seems showtime has done a good job cleaning all the videos off of the net
its actually dissapointing for me to watch that because i like jeff, and think he was a good fighter, and he said 'this is where it all begins' but sadly its where it all but ended... and now hes got a tough fight against jt, he needs to drop some of that muscle... its taking too much of his stamina i think and slows him down a bit... i hope the best for him.
This fight was a no brainer. I'm still baffled by how many were not just picking Lacy but convinced he would knock Calzaghe out.
I picked Lacy to win a close, hard-fought contest. The only reason I had done so was because Calzaghe had been rather ordinary against Salem and though he beat Veit quite easily it appeared as though there were holes in his defense. Lacy was beating everyone in stunning fashion. It was just a matter of where their careers seemed to be heading at the time. Like many people, I thought Joe was on the downside. Couldn't have been more wrong.
Yeah, now it's all funny to pick on Lacy like all of you "knew" it. Looks like some forgot the countless threads of how Calzaghe was a "nobody" who will "Starched under 2 rounds", the "chinless" threads of Calzaghe with many "Unproved and only beat bums". 95% of the posters here were picking Lacy, I admit with no shame at all that I was one of them, but looking at some of you(yes I remember some) participating in this thread like you knew it is laughable and a true sign of clowns who are scared to admit the truth behind a damn computer to keep "respect" on a site. I could remember very very few picking Calzaghe, Arran was one of them and a few other loyal British fans that actually saw enough of his fights and know him. Yeah, now we all knew Lacy wasn't going to stand a chance, sure.
I'm a huge Lacy supporter and to be fair to Shaw it was Lacy who kept asking for it over and over. Even Shaw admitted that Lacy needed more fights at some point but Lacy kept pushing for it and asked for it, even said he will go to England to make it happen. Shaw didn't push him early nor forced him, they had all the excuses they needed to avoid it anyway. One of them being that Lacy was officially recognized as #1 at the time and that he didn't need to travel for it, not to forget Calzaghe turning down the fight at some point because of an injured hand. They still kept pushing for it and Lacy was the reason why as he mentioned it in every interview saying he knows he has the style to finish off Calzaghe. His team just did what he wanted them to, yeah they are his manages and should talk him out of it but when the main man wants something TOO bad they will make it for him.
Fight should of been stopped lacy took a beating which wasn't needed it was clear he couldn't win and was getting beat up. I don't think to many people would of complained if he had of been pulled out.
****! You know, the heavyweights have always been my focus (through the good and the bad) so I didn't really follow much of the hype about Lacy...and to be honest I'd never followed Calzaghe's career much either. It wasn't until a short while beforehand that I got interested in this fight, when hearing McGuigan hype up the way Lacy beat Reid. Didn't know the belief and hype for Lacy was quite this nuts. I knew he was favoured but not all this stuff. I knew about the "next coming of Mike Tyson" stuff but I've heard that one a bit too often to bet the bank on it.
