Maybe you LISTENED to the fight via the RADIO in your country. Golovkin was pounding Lemiuex, gave him a bodyshot, and he said "ahhh" and turned to the referee as if you say stop it.

I guess you wanted Lemiuex to die in the ring.

Lemieux was a beaten man. Sure it could have gone on for a bit longer but it would have just been a slow, painful beat down and it's the ref's job to protect a fighter. Lemieux was never in the fight and he knew it, he even said it between one of the rounds. He was taking a beating, his nose was busted and the few times he hit Golovkin cleanly his punches had no effect, the ending was inevitable.

Yup, it was really just a matter of time. Nothing would've happened if the ref let him continue except getting hurt more...

A tad early but he was looking at the ref to help him out, he wanted out.

I had no problem with the stoppage. Lemieux was taking a systematic beat down for 8 rounds.

It is pity to see some posters would just love to see some white boy beaten to a pulp - just for a fun.

Finally, this is a sport, not a gladiator game, and there are some more mature, responsible people in the ring refereeing it....

Lemieux was looking to land a lucky powershot. While I don't think that's a good strategy, I think he should have been allowed to attempt it. Instead, the ref just stopped the fight for no good reason.

LOL he was getting his **** pushed in, the ref did him a favour. He did get hurt though from a body shot he winces and then looks at the bouncing ref. It probably was a little early but, as I said, the ref saved him from taking a further beating.

Look at that right hand DL landed just before the stoppage.
Come on -- this was a title fight not the amateurs.
If you cant stomach it -- watch another sport.

For anyone claiming it was a bull**** stoppage: take a look at what happened to Prichard Colon yesterday.

I can stomach it just fine and if it had gone on a little longer I wouldn't have complained but I also don't feel it was a bull**** stoppage.

I DVRed the fight just cant look at it right now since my 6yo daughter is on the tv but I will re-watch it later.

If I remember correctly that last right hand had 0 effect like the handful of others that he had landed but I could be wrong.

But I see where you are going saying the timing of the stoppage you didn't like since he was firing back. I think you also have to look at everything leading up to it. 7 rounds of a sustained beating and that body shot that had him stumbling and looking at the ref. Firing back is one thing and if he had visibly hurt or troubled GGG with that last shot I would see things more your way.

Again I while I respect your opinion and even think that if the ref had decided to let it go a little longer I wouldn't have complained but the ref was right there looking into his eyes so I can see why he stopped it.

The stoppage was fine. Lemieux was looking at the referee prior to it being stopped and was being tuned up. He was not going to win that fight and there was no point in letting him take even more punishment. A rematch goes exactly the same way.
