Counter punching only wins if you stop the other guy from hitting you. Martinez defens was to walk backwards with his hands down. He got hit alot. Much more than Williams did. Thats the bottom line , I think. Williams won IMO. I basically saw Williams landing lead uppercuts , upppercuts in the clinch, uppercuts in close. A jab that was peppering Martinez for most of the night. Martinez was able to land a lead left because his jab wasnt working or should I say ; reaching the target. He had a PUNISHING counter right hand ALL NIGHT LONG. BUT he was still in retreat waitng for those moments to come. But they didnt come enough to stop Williams . While some people waited around for more big counters from Martinez that didint accumulate enough, Williams was on a steady attack.
That's not outrageous, just slightly wrong. Martinez 7-5 for me, can see a draw. Your score is pushing it for PW. 11-1 is just madness.
exactly. martinez looked special in there and williams just looked ordinary. martinez took that away from williams. he's usually the guy who impresses me in fights, but last night martinez was very impressive to me.
Mrtinez ran all night and tried to spoil the fight PW made the fight. Martinez did land the harder shots but Pw landed way more and pressed the fight. THE double standards on here are ridiculous....
I had a 6-6 draw. The bottom line is that people got to see that Sergio Martinez is the real deal. Rematch is a MUST!
I had Martinez slightly ahead but have no problem with a draw or Williams winning narrowly. But I do have a problem with Paul's brother scoring the fight.
I thought Martinez did way, way better than Winky did. I don't remember Winky landing nearly as well as Sergio did.
I'm watching the fight right now on HBO since I couldn't catch it this past weekend due to working that night, but right now through 4 rounds I have it 3-1 at the very least for Martinez. Martinez at times is and was making PW look silly. PW is coming forward and being the aggressor but what's the point of being the aggressor and getting punched in the face over and over again by right hands? Martinez is landing the cleaner/effective punches from what I can see so far.
A very, very good fight but I'd have to give the nod to Martinez. The adjustments him and his corner made going away from the right hands and using mor straight lefts to the head and body to set up the right hook...Was a great adjustment and threw PW off enough for Martinez to have won that fight and how the hell did Lederman give PW the 11 and 12th rounds is beyond me. Who gives a shitt if Martinez was tired...Martinez was catching PW cleanly in the 11th. I gave the 11th to Martinez and it was a draw in the 12th in my book....Since they both were gassed. I'd love to see a rematch. I don't dislike PW, but simply put he doesn't impress me.....He's active but sloppy and doesn't fight tall. He throws alot of punches but a lot of them are pitty pat punches and wide. He's just not my type of fighter stylistically and I don't understand the hype?
