I agree....I think some fans try too hard to come off like they are unable to enjoy a great fight like this one simply because it was a slugfest in spots..... But there was also a lot of skill exhibited.....it just wasn't what made the fight memorable... This fight really had a lot of layers to it and it was more than just boxing. If you're a fan of the sport then you really enjoyed this one.

Thats thing for me it kinda felt like watching an mma fight minus the ground game.
If i was going to try to convert an mma fan to boxing this would be the fight that i would show them. I don't mean that as a diss but just to say that it felt comparable.

Their was a lot of skills that both men exhibited in the ring on Saturday....the styles match up created a lot of action where one man had the advantage. Lopez was the man with more skills however skills are not the only element that can win a fight in this sport. Lopez is a good counter puncher but he couldnt box Salido off the back foot which is what he was trying to do....and he was getting beat up.... Lopez completely switched up tactics and had to show grit...Lopez bit down and fought...at some point most boxers have these moments that prove they have depth and substance outside of their style and skills. This is what helped make this fight a classic. Don't over analyze it....you'll miss out on aoprectiating truly incerdible fight.

Damn dog you ain't even in the minority in this one your the only one going on about how skilless these guys are. I'm not going to say these guys great their carrers aren't over, but the fight wasn't one sided despite Salido showing exceptional combination punching and we talking straights, hooks, uppercuts, bodyshots, etc. Even Juanma isn't completely one dimensional he was moving around the ring well, but Salido wasn't just coming forward throwing hayemakers he was outboxing, outworking, and breaking down the younger, stronger Lopez. You gotta give credit to both. Neither are close to being bums.

I kind of get what you mean. After the 2nd round I knew it was over because Juanma didn't have the power to make Salido respect him, wasn't boxing well, and was getting hit clean to early. Salido's style is kinda sloppy and the fight looked sloppy.

As for Juanma's potential, I think he is just too stubborn. I recall a thread(don't remember if it was here or on the scene) that said that in training for this fight Juanma was getting tagged at will with the right hand by his sparring partners and that if anyone(even the trainer) tried to correct him or point it out to him he would get pissed.

There is only so much you can do with talent if you are too stubborn to develop it.

That's the thing i am just going with my gut feeling on this. Turning the volume down on the commentators, the twitter feeds, others fans ideas of what a great fight is and just simply going with what i feel about the fight.
as more people share their opinions about the fight it dose add a layer for me to consider and cause me to then reanalyze (or over analyze) the fight. But the feeling is still the same. I just can't appreciate this fight to the same level some can. it's a good fight, not terrible. it will be consider a classic by almost every one and i can respect that, but for me the sum of its part just didn't move me.

Interesting. That stubbornness definitely showed up in the fight. I wonder how his training camp went cause it looks like it went terrible judging by this fight.

If these guys are bums bring me more bum fights because there was exciting action in this fight. To a degree Lopez will be remembered for losing these two fights and that's not a terrible thing considering he fought a bravely and true to the style that won him fans. Salido deserves praise.
