Think people harsh on Duddy, true he hasn't fought many at the top of their game but he has defeated Eastman, Vanda amongst others. Duddy has also shown to be quite adaptable, having been caught regularly early against Smichet he reverted to his boxing and changed the fight, vanda could hardly lay a glove on him.
Many boxers won't risk fighting a top contender without a decent paycheque. Haye has fought any credible heavyweight contenders yet is heralded by many as the messiah of the division.
I've attended a number of Duddy's fights back home and he has shown good offence, a great chin and a huge heart! I believe that Duddy has a big fight in him. Perhaps not against the big middleweights, but he could hold his own against Chavez etc

Yeah, you're right Chavez jr is probably the biggest fight out there for Duddy without dangering his health. Arum could put him in with Foreman too i suppose if the Pacquiao fight doesnt materialise. In general though, since the Eastman fight Duddys career has gone backwards. He need to cash in now while he has the chance.

Duddy's an ok fighter but will lose when he fights anyone in the top ten. I think his people are doing the right thing. Keep padding his record until a big payday fight comes around. Might as well get beat by Pavlik, Winky, etc for good money instead of getting beat by Billy Lydell for little money.

Did any of you guys see Arum throwing a ****-fit after Duddy/Smichet? It was on video, but I can't seem to locate it.

I don't remember who did the commentary on the fight, but I did watch the fight.
And if you were actually pleased with Duddy's performance in that fight then you have to be lying about watching it.

you've never seen an average or slightly above average fighter fight weak opponents to pad their record. its a common thing. he'll get koed when he finally steps up in competition.

Duddy should fight that Chavez guy who also like to feast on cans.

No point in Duddy taking high risk fights for little monetary gains, i don't think its about Duddy fearing anybody. He would fight Pavlik etc tomorrow if given the chance. Alsofew big homecoming fights, how about Duddy-Lee Duddy Macklin etc?

Not everyone can be a champion. I think the majority of the people are a bit wiser when it comes to Duddy and knows he'll never be a champion.

He still has entertaining fights and they're always on MSG a few weeks after so I have no problem with it. Let him fight cans, He's not going to be a champ so he might as well do something.

It's a bit disappointing the way his career has gone alright.

The Eastman fight was his high watermark, he looked good in that fight despite never looking like he could knock him out.

The Smichet fight messed him up. He wanted to put on a show because people were there to sign him up for the Pavlik fight. He went in swinging and got caught a lot. He cleaned up his act as the fight went on, but he looked bad and it ruined his shot.

After that he had loads of troubles outside of the ring. His manager and promoter were screwing him out of money. He's had a series of different trainers and a failed attempt at making it down to 154.

It looks really bad that he's still fighting bums at this stage, but I think he is turning it around. He's still a very good fighter, good technically and actually has a decent defense when he isn't trying to put on a show.

He's with Top Rank now and they're building him up for a fight with Pavlik, I really hope this goes through. Mainly because I want John to get a payday to help him support his family, for all his work in the sport.

But also because I think he's a lot more deserving than most of a fight against Pavlik than the rest of Pavliks defenses. I wouldn't bet on him to win, but he'll put up a good fight. At the very least he's got a great beard and great heart, it'll be an exciting fight.

The problem now is that he needs a half decent fight before they can set up the Pavlik fight. They're going to have to take a risk on a better class of opponent. If Duddy can come through that, he'll get his payday.
