He isnt that good guys. The kid simply IS NOT an elite level fighter.

He had great matchmaking early in his career, he got put in with Yory Boy Campas (No one seems to remember this fight, but it was actually the real exposure of how limited Duddy was), Campas took him to the wall, and since then its been its tomato cans and failed attempts to step up his opponents

The funny thing about Duddy, he has good offense, but when he fights offensive his defense is nonexistant.
He can have good defense, but is then completely ineffective offensively.

He cant do both, its an odd problem.

He puts on good fights though, and he will always be a big draw in New York and Ireland

I'd like to see him fight Chavez Jr. Chavez Jr is a fighter he could lay a beating on

I remember Duddy/Campas. I don't remember it in detail, but that was the first time I saw Duddy fight.

After all the management/money issues and changes of trainer etc, Its almost like rebuilding a fighter from the ground up. That, unfortunately means a diet of less threatening fighters for a while.

Its like starting all over again.

I don't think anyone is unaware of Duddy's limitations but he can maybe be forgiven one or two confidence builders because of what has gone on before. Any more than that then maybe this thread could be ressurected.

That is what Top Rank wants anyway, they want to package a "super fight" like that for an Irish Holiday or a Mexican Holiday and stick it in either Madison Square Garden or the Staples Center.

I don't get why people are upset with Duddy or his team managing his career like this. Duddy isn't a world beater, he knows it and his team knows it, so instead of him ending up like Harry Joe Yorgey after the Angulo fight they decided to milk his career for all its worth. Besides, if you don't like who he is fighting then don't tune in.

Promoters are just using him to milk the Irish boxing fans who are blindly desperate for one of their own to emerge as a superstar.

It was a good war of fight that was highly entertaining.

Problem was that it was a war and was never supposed to be one.

Campas gave Duddy all he could handle. And Duddy was never really able to hurt Campas, although Campas hurt him, and fought a dogfight when he should have been boxing

    Against who?

I can understand the initial appeal but som were proclaiming him as the next big thing when he was going life and death with Smichet.

The first time I saw him fight I thought he was terrible. I still have the same opinion.

You see every boxer starts out fighting bums and gradually moved up a level of a opponent after every win .... john had a few scares against smitchet etc. and hasnt taken any risks since because he now knows his level no need to hate the man for that. At the start of his career he was knocking out everyone it was just when he stepped up quality and changed trainers he failed... his popularity with the American / irish keeps him in the limelight.

Yeah, I understand how it works but he eats shots and is having wars against journeymen. There weren't just a few scares against Smichet - he was made to look very ordinary by someone who was very ordinary.

It wasn't just the change in trainers, Duddy just doesn't have what it takes to be any good at championship level. Lets have it right, he does fight head on and is involved in some real tear ups, but people are supporting this man because of his roots and proclaiming he will become a champion etc based on just this rather than his actual ability to reach elite level.

When is he actually going to have a (nother) meaningful fight???

Great post with many talking points, which I'm sure will open up some insightful discussion.

It's this typical jingoistic bull**** retort which I can't stand. Why don't you and sucksbigwads go and lick your Sam Sexton inflicted wounds.

Perhaps I should have taken that muppet up on his bet after all. :rofl

    Pricks. :good
