So I picked up Title Bout Championship Boxing after seeing how much fun they were having with it in the Lounge. If you're not familiar, it's a boxing simulation featuring thousands of fighters across all divisions from the dawn of the gloved era onward. The Lounge guys are using it to make current or recent fighters duke it out, while I'm sure someone here in Classic has used it to make Harry Greb fight Archie Moore or something. But that **** is all played out. I would rather have BUM WARS! To that end, I have loaded every heavyweight the game has into one database, and then thrown out everyone with an ability rating higher than two. Just to give an idea of what that means, here are some fighters and their ratings. Muhammad Ali: 15 David Tua: 8 Renaldo Snipes: 6 Leon Spinks: 4 Chauncey Welliver: 2 Peter McNeely: 0 So what I have now is a self-contained all-time heavyweight division where guys like Samson Po'uha and Jean-Pierre Coopman are potentially big guns. It's time to set everyone fighting and see who is the greatest bum of them all. It's time for BUM WARS! I'm going to make everyone (almost 500 fighters) fight ten bouts against randomly selected fellow bums. All fighters are assumed to be prime, and all fights are scheduled for 15 rounds. Once ten cycles of fights have passed, I'll crown a heavyweight champion of the Bum Wars universe and post rankings and such. I'll also take requests to see if your favorite bum is in there, and set up specific grudge matches if someone wants to see two particular bums slug it out. That is if anyone gives a ****.
The system is just way too erratic for me to enjoy. Although it did have Fitz stopping Sullivan in six or so rounds, which I enjoyed. Sadly it also had him throwing four and five punch combinations :-(
Yeah, "erratic" is a great description. I tried to play it again a couple weeks ago, and was quickly reminded how inaccurate it is. The ratings system is flawed and is missing some important components. It's too predictable in some ways, while too unpredictable in other ways. In both cases, its in the wrong way. Bum wars may be a fun outing because of lowered expectations and less of a knowledge about the guys fighting though.
