Eh, it's a mandatory and stay busy so he has my pass for this one. But the last 3 years I've been following him I've been waiting for that step up. He's proven he's elite, but he doesn't prove how far that caps out.. and whilst I see his plan and know his goals, and not all of it has been his fault, I think he's got the hype and fan support around him now, and now is the peak time to do something big, or his fans are gonna trickle away. I doubt boxers know many or any other higher ranking fighters. They're working a full time job training, taking care of family and living their lives. But who cares it's a stay busy fight against a mandatory.
I know this is your point, but why would he? Golovkin seems to follow the sport some, but he's probably got better things to do than learn the names of every prospect in his division - nobody (including team GGG) is trying to pretend he's fighting Wade for any other reason than to fulfil his mandatory commitments.
