I'll say one thing about Kirk Johnson: His fans are DEVOTED! I can't believe how many positive comments I am reading here about his future chances. Not that I am criticizing; if you're a fan you're supposed to be supportive. It just seems like the confidence in Kirk is not in line with his history. Good luck to him if he gets in shape and seriously tries to comeback.
I too hope to see him back in the ring. I am not holding out too much hope though. As has been said, I'll believe it when I see it. Having said that, the vitriol with which some here envelope KJ is unwarranted and unfair. The man is human and, in my opinion, had only one bad fight. How many other fighters have had bad days and have not even come close to receiving the scorn and ridicule Kirk has? I think that if Kirk were obnoxious, rude, and loud in that PBF manner, he would likely avoid it. Why??? Ask yourselves that question!
I doubt Johnson is fighting anytime soon, and if he does just put him up there with the Holyfields, Moorers, Briggs and the other non-players in the heavyweight division. Too little, too late, too much time off.
Why does nobody ever know who I'm talking about? :? He's fought on TV before! Kevin is about six million times as relevant as Kirk right now but gets talked about one six millionth of a percent as much. Either Kevin is underappreciated/unnoticed, Kirk is way overhyped, or both. :huh
Maybe nobody has heard of Kevin Johnson because the only guy he beat was Damian Wills, and he has a low knockout percentage. kirk fought a number of big names, losing twice, but beating people who were at the time in the top 10, including Larry Donald, Saverese, and Maskaev. And he won two of three of those fights in devastating fashion. That's the reason behind the devotion--the promise.
Okay, so you've illustrated that Kirk, who's been fighting much, much longer has the deeper resume overall. What does that have to do with who's more relevant in 2008? Who's Kirk fought lately that was bigger news than Damian Wills? Lately, like, in the last four years? Compare to respectably active (six fights in 06, five in 07) developing prospect Kevin, who's already showing just as much domination over the same type of C level guys as stylistically similar Eddie Chambers - who just fought for the Klitschko #1 contender spot - was not too long ago... Difference between Kirk and Kevin: one is yesterday's could-have-been headline, and one guy is tomorrow's could-be. Today, why are we talking about the could have been and not the could be?
didnt he get forced into a layoff by a pretty serious knee injury? i thought some punk boxer stepped on his foot then pushed him down or something like that
