I think he has a chance. I think the broader point is that Kevin is still in his 20s and would have no reason to retire after losing just one fight if he did happen to lose. Kirk, on the other hand, can only go back to the drawing board so many times (even if he, himself, has only lost one fight legitimately--he is much older). I wish that BoxRec would show Kirk with an upcoming fight. If he was telling Ralphie the truth, it should be showing up on there any day now.
Remember when you used to ride his nuts as if he was the next champion and everyone knew he was just fat?
Many a talented fighter has fallen down the same path. The story is all too familiar. On another note,I hear there is the possibility of a title fight coming to Halifax in mid-March.Is this true?
He needs to get his ass down to the 235-240lbs. range to seriously entertain a comeback. A Lewis he isn't, which is what a lot of Canadian media compared him to. This most likely placed unwanted pressure to perform up to impossible standards. In failing to realize his talents because of motivational/psychological issues, he is more like a Golota. But Golota has 9 lives! Does Kirk?
I know the guy doing the card well,His name is jeff Henwood,he was at my house while he was here trying to drum up some sponcers for the card.He asked me and my buddy to help him out with the card.He asked me to walk the fighters out.I might do it,not sure yet.
Kirk could fight, it was sad to see a fighter so talented waste it because of his problem with overeating... God bless...
True. Kirk at his best showed a lot of skill in the ring and his crushing KO of Oleg had me believing he was a future titleholder. I was sure he was going to beat Ruiz.
Ralphie. What's the story? If he is going to fight in March, doesn't he need to have it announced soon? Don't they have to sell some tickets? :huh
I think most everyone would like to see Johnson get his weight down and return. But as Johnson, Toney, and many others illustrate, one very important aspect of being a pro fighter on the world level is being able to control what you eat. Sometimes, that is the only thing some fighters lack, but even though they may possess everythign else, their lacking that one all - important attribute is enough to ruin their careers.
It is very confusing as to why fighters allow themselves to get out of shape. It's a pretty simple thing. Being in shape is a tool for the job. You wouldn't show up for a day at work with a malfunctioning stethoscope if you were a doctor or a broken saw if you were a carpenter. How can you call yourself a professional boxer when you show up in the ring with a body that is not up to the task? And that's your only tool for that job!! The one thing you must absolutely have to do the best jwork that you can do! As Holyfield proves, if you have that, even if your skills are on the decline, you can at least do a passable job of plying your trade.
