There's at least an outside chance that being sick enough to need intervenous antibiotics and fluids just 3 days prior to the fight had something to do with that. And, having an elbow injury serious enough to stop training and work with 3 physical therapists may have played a roll as well. I'm just saying, at least an outside chance.

Like I said though, you can't use that excuse for Taylor-Pavlik II.

And he DID look sluggish for that fight. His power clearly didn't travel well with him up to 166.

Plus let's be honest - in a boxing sense Pavlik was very seriously schooled. I mean B-hop really did negate a lot of Pavlik's natural strengths in a way that made me feel like the outcome wouldn't really have been that much different had Kelly been 100%.

Keeping Kelly's right hand out of reach and making it awkward for him to strike his money shot, keeping him off focus so KP couldn't utilise his jabs etc. It was a technical masterclass.

However, I think you have to be a B-hop to exploit these types of weaknesses in Pavlik @ 170 - and I certainly don't put a bum like Froch in the same category as The Executioner. So it's not all bad news for the Ghost.

Regardless of weight, or how sick KP was, or was not, I think Pavlik/Taylor II and the Hopkins fight showed one thing pretty clearly. At this point in his career, if Kelly does not get the opponent he expects, he has trouble. In the Taylor rematch he expected the same old Jermain, but got a much improved version. He expected the Hopkins from the Calzaghe fight who looked old and worn out. BHop put on a pretty brilliant show.

I have my doubts about KP actually taking the Rubio fight, but if he does, I hope he uses it as an opportunity to try out some new stuff. Instead of just going into his usual seek and destroy mode I'd like to see him spend time counter punching off the back foot, some time using lateral movement to keep Rubio turning, maybe switch to southpaw, et. Pavlik was a slick boxer as a young amature. Later, when the power showed up, he changed his style. I think he could use a Rubio fight to get back to his roots. In my opinion that would make a better statement than blowing Rubio out in a few rounds.

Bunce thinks Froch would be too much for Kessler as well.

Ah -- but he did think about it. I don't remember the round, but at one point the camera had a perfect view of KP starting to throw a nut shot. He pulled the punch, but he clearly thought about putting BHop's nuts in his throat.
