    Buncey would you get behind my petition to have World Title fights involving British fighters on the protected sports list so that at the very least BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 can show replays of the fights???

    I will not get behind that for one simple reason...money. I would never ask a fighter to take an 80 percent cut in money. Froch and Hatton and Haye could all be on the BBC in the next two months if they wanted to fight for about 200,000 grand each. Go ask them next time you see them!
    Boxing is a unique sport in TV terms.
    If individual tennis players and race horse owners started to negotiate with TV directly for Wimbledon and the Grand National they would remain on the BBC for about 3 seconds. Trust me.
    Think back to little Naz - his last ITV fight was watched by 9.4 million at 11:40pm. He was paid 40,000 grand by Frank Warren, who lost money on the show. Naz went with Warren to Sky and his fights jumped to in excess of 300,000 pounds. If Naz had stayed on ITV all of his career he would have cleared about two million quid - he made 35 million. Get my point?

    Adios.

    I can understand both sides to the story...... Froch wants a good payday for taking risks (unlike lots of other fighters), the fans want to see it as well.

    No doubt the TV companies actually want to show it also.... but with there only being so much money in the pot something has to miss out.

    I suppose what frustrates boxing fans and those of other minority sports (rugby league for instance) is that so much money is spent on football, in which I only have a passing interest if truth be told.

    the petition would be for delayed coverage. I get your point, but we need to consider the future of the sport.

    Haye, Elcock and Jennings almost not being shown would have been disasters for Boxing in this country, its only a matter of time before a world title fight featuring a british fighter is not shown on tv. We are hoping Carl Froch is not it.

    Professional Boxing promoters are failing to consider the future of the sports fan base by signing exclusive TV deals with Subscription channels. The petition is to make sure boxing remains a popular sport for generations by making sure any British fighter performing at a highest level is seen buy the biggest audience possible.

    In the broadcasting act of 1996 many sporting event were put into two categories. Category A features events such as The FIFA World Cup Finals, The Olympics, Rugby World Cup and Wimbledon Tennis Final, and guarantees that they will receive a live terrestrial television broadcast.
    Category B features events such as Test Cricket matches, The Ryder Cup and Six Nations rugby. It guarantees that Secondary Coverage (Highlights, Delayed coverage) is protected and must be shown by a terrestrial broadcaster.

    This petition is to make any world title fight (sanctioned by the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF) involving a British boxer become a category B Protected event. This would ensure the lasting popularity of one of country’s oldest past times, and allow all of Britain the ability to view world class boxing involving a British fighter.

    this is the full list of sports on the act;

    Once i get a decent amount of signitures I will send it it the UK sports minister.

    Steve could you tell me how much percentage wise boxing takes up of the amount of money Setanta pay for the sports shown? And out of that figure how much boxing costs the monthly subscriber which is £11.99 or something. Considering how much the Premiership matches (hundreds of millions), the Rugby matches, Scottish matches, UFC etc are reputed to have cost it must be a small percentage of that.

    If there was a stand Alone boxing channel it could be easily justified to have it at say £4/5.99 a month which would surely generate more money than Setanta are taking from boxing at the moment? Put is available Worldwide on subscription on the website as well.

    Whats the chances?
