I'm not blowing smoke but I think Buncey does a good job. Nothing in life is perfect and as a Satanta Freeview subscriber I get hacked off at times. But all in all :thumbsup If you think boxing is a dodgy game then the TV game is a match in many departments. The company I work for does high end, high profile web streaming, so the technology is out there. Perhaps it is time for promoters to cut out the middle men and just stream their shows direct to the punters over the internet on a PPV basis. Creating a web boxing channel with the cooperation of promoters and boxers is (IMO) very possible (although I have no idea if the numbers stack up) and I'm sure my bosses would be happy to explore the options with serious, interested parties.
I think people on here need to remember a few things. Steve Bunce comes and posts on here through his own will on his own time probably, also he doesn't just come post to advertise his show then **** off, he often answers question after question, replies in good humour (when its valid) to critiscm. Whether you like him or not he is in my opinion a very good presenter, has great knowledge, ok he may get excited a bit sometimes but that shows he's like us, he's a fan also ffs what you rather have some faceless media type in a nice suit (I know Buncey wears suit, but I said nice lol). His presenting with Andy Kerr (who is imo excellent) is fast becoming a top top partnership. Also people slagging the show I cannot understand, its a top quality boxing magazine show, its the only show like it in that it covers other channels fights/fighters too. Sure some hardcore fans may want more in depth pieces, but you have to remember it still has to be about ratings, they cant marginalise their audience just because a few people post a thread about a subject on a message board. Also with regard to Setanta, do any of the other TV companies come on here and actually listen to fans and try and get a fight? Remember their numbers have to add up too, its business. I actually think Setanta are well worth the money, remember you pay for a month of setanta what you would for 1 sky ppv. Plus Setanta have Richie Woodhall (legend)!! I honestly dont work for Setanta, just a fan, just think a lot of the time people have to thing about other factors.
This internet forum fight with buncey is more entertaining than most klitschko fights!! I haven't laughed so hard since I had a look at the boxing look-a-likes thread..
Someone show me another programmewhere the presenter is such an obvious fan of the sport - any sport. Compare Buncey's show to Sky's football coverage, with its choice of hype out of all proportion or fans-as-sad-twats.
Why is the UK so much different to Germany? In Germany you get more money on a long term when being broadcasted by the national tv stations like ARD and ZDF. Or is it the higher competition on UK TV?
Congrats Doug on winning the Amir Khan DVD. Wanted one for calling Michael Bentt, though I understand your reasoning. Sounds like a geuninely good guy.
The satellite channels are likely to pay more in the UK. The national/network channels aren't that interested in boxing now. The likes of Hatton and now Froch fight in America at 3/4am and they don't see the point in showing those fights live so don't offer the big money. You're very lucky in Germany as all the big fights are on free tv.
Sorry, Bunce. Check your original message. You stated that Naz earned 40,000 grand - as a consequence Frank Warren made a loss on his show. Which comes as no surprise to me, as where I come from, a 'grand' means a thousand. 40, 000 grand, well, YOU do the math....... Even an old alcoholic like me can work that one out. Check your facts before you come back at me with an insult, you half wit.
ive lost count how manyposts have been on here having a pop at buncey and the show, its pathetic if you dont like the show dont watch it i for one love having a one hour show week in week out devoted to the sport no other channel has devoted so much time to our sport for years.each week he gives us interview after interview from fighters young and old and by interviewing fighters from sky/hbo etc it gives us a rounded view of the weekly news not one solely promtoing there own fights
Surely there's a line to be drawn where the business being done has to fall into line with some regulation of the sport? By not highlighting wrongdoings it seems you are endorsing them. Should we not care in whose hands our money ends up? Some of the topics I mentioned (the drugs, weight differences) require merely changes in punishment and rules and nothing to do with the threat of litigation. I just hope it's not going to take a tragedy for them to suddenly become topics of interest for fans. Anyway, I appreciate you are available for comment on here. Nulty - you spotted me on my high horse despite having your head buried in the sand. I'm impressed.
I can't see the grounds for having major digs at the show and Buncey. I follow a lot of sports and Boxing is massively under represented. I don't know of a better magazine style programme about any sport that i follow. They have an hour to inform and entertain, they seem to fit in 7-10 sections each week and to me it's a good mix of big name fighters/hype and a reasonable amount of up and comers or other interesting bits of the sport. If it sounds like i'm brown-nosing i don't especially give a rats. p.s. not sure if Ola Afolabi is likely to be travelling across the Atlantic much now that he is back home, but if he needs a few quid get him doing some stateside interviews, i like the way he chats, man.
Is there any news on the Carl Froch fight, I am not sure how the whole Setanta sport set up works, but can the guy in charge call them up and say..... "listen yank, that how much we are willing to pay, it's better than nothing."
