That's exactly what needs to be said.
Fighters can't go around calling good world-level fighters "bums" and having their friends in the press agree with them, when their own accomplishments and ability are no better.
    It's just bad form.

Ali called guys "bums" etc., and talked a lot of ****, but he kind of ending up backing his words up with actions, didn't he ?
Haye came up short, very very short.

It's not an insult if it's true.

Bunce said in this thread that "the hype was essential." I believe that it is more important to tell the truth about a fight than to hype a fight. Hyping fights is the job of promoters. Telling the truth is the job of journalists.

I see, I can't argue with that at all. Good point.

Be amusing to see Bunce's reply to that

Brut: Your tone was a bit disrespectful. It was.
At 23, by the way, I was living in a squat in East London covering fights - both amateur and pro - two or three times each week. I was filing 50 words or just results for local papers. I lived in the squat because I was not getting paid enough money to have a real flat. I did it so that I could somehow crash the monopoly on boxing coverage held by a dozen old farts, which I did after SIX years of hard, hard work. There was no blog shite available back then. Have you ever filed results only to a local paper? Trust me, it hurts the soul. But, it means that 25 years later I can say what I like to boy wannabes. That is the reality. I hope that when you are my age you will be a major star. I really do, good luck to you and your predictions.

    Adios.

This is getting more exciting than Saturdays fight.

Keep it in perspective Buncey he's a young fella and you have nothing to prove.

Any inside info on how Booth feels about a possible Vitali match-up?

Buncey, I have a lot of respect for you and you are good for boxing so I'm sorry if I was disrespectful. It's good that you come on ESB and fight your corner.

Any of us who make predictions are going to make our fair share of mistakes. There's no shame in that. I always try to admit when I'm wrong. It's not easy to do, no doubt.

I posted on here after the Harrison fight criticising the way you justified it after the event. I defended the Harrison fight before it happened myself but after the fight was a total wash-out I admitted that I was wrong. That's all any of us can do.

I understand that you think you need to hype boxing these days because boxing is a minority sport. I disagree because I think that all the false hype puts people off boxing. Hype always gets exposed in the end.

Now, if there had been a proper undercard on Saturday maybe the casuals would have at least got one exciting fight to turn them onto boxing but when undercards are crap it's a different story.

So many people will have been turned off boxing by Haye-Harrison and Haye-Wlad and then won't bat an eyelid in Carl Froch's direction. (I know you try hard to promote Froch.) Do you not think that the success of fights like Haye-Harrison and Haye-Wlad are pyrrhic victories for boxing?

To be fair, Mr.Bunce is part of the hype machine. He makes his living in a business that relies on HYPE and distortions of the truth. That's the professional boxing game. Hype and ballyhoo reigns supreme, it generates interest, it generates money. The bigger the fights are the better for everyone who gets paid in the industry.

Amateur writers are more likely to be concerned with such things as the sober truths and an objective analysis. The bog-standard sports fan who might blog or write as a hobby is on the other side of the fence, he pays to watch sports and has no vested interest in ballyhooing it against his better judgment. Of course, we are all human and get carried away with it sometimes.

Strong: I never said a word...he told me that I could learn something from him. What? I'm going to go...'thanks'?
He's an unproven little cruiser throwing claims at an established heavyweight...sound familiar. He needed to post this before the fight.

    Adios.

Buncey.......I suppose you have to put them back in their box every and then or they'll think you're going soft.

I'd like to hear a Booth interview on Thursday. He seems to be getting weary of pro boxing judging from some of his quotes before the Haye fight.

Brut: Proper undercard complaint is genuine. See SKY for that particular baby. I think the hype before Harrison and before Wlad was genuine. It was all meant, no fabrications, no clever tales with picture opportunities. Haye hated Harrison and came to hate Wlad. It was not plastic hype. I HAD to have that hype on the BBC London show. The copy in the Independent is more considered. My preview in the paper actually called it a mismatch in every way.
The bad press is terrible for everybody who cares about boxing - fans and professionals. Haye, in my opinion, is getting too much stick.

    Adios.

Hes getting stick though because for three years hes called Wlads opponents bums who didnt try to win and only turned up for the cash but in reality what did he do that was any different once he stepped into the ring with Klitschko?
Hows he any different to Chagaev or Chambers Steve? They didnt try but Haye did?

Yeah, Haye's the one who's been trashing the whole heavyweight division and calling the Klitschkos dominance a travesty and a disgrace, and all the challengers bums.

So how come it's only bad for boxing when Haye's is getting the stick ?
What about his own part in denigrating the game ?
By his own standards, he's a bum who didn't try.

    :goodExactly.
Its terrible watching Chambers do nothing against Wlad but with Haye its seems theres a different story.
