I remember that. I didn't think he did miss though & Harris was actually flat out on the floor.

Harris was as flat as a pancake, out for the count, but his head was kind of aligned under the bottom rope... Maussa took a ten foot run up, windmilled them long arms... and hit the rope... genius

    Yeah that was great.

I can understand Jones getting DQed for hitting Griffin when he was down, although Griffin seems to make the most of it, but the ref has to be able to differentiate between a guy who actually can't continue and a guy who is just trying to win a fight by DQ. As Bunce said, if it was such a hard shot that he couldn't continue why did they just leave him on his own for 5 minutes?

    Exactly Mr Swollocks.

This witchunt by the brits all cos Cortez didnt let Ricky break the rules is pathetic.

Its conveniently forgotten that team Hatton & all his british fans & nuthuggers were over the blue moon when Cortez was announced s the ref for the Mayweather fight.

Floyd then goes on to spank 'our' Ricky, & because Hatton failed abysmally, its all the big bad refs fault, & a scapegoat was born.

Joe Cortez is a good ref. Its sickening seeing all the Hatton nuthuggers still screaming for his blood. Hypocrites the lot of em.

Remember Hatton fans, YOU wanted Cortez to ref the fight. So live with your choices, & stop being bitchy bitches.

Didn't you see the amount of holding Cortez let Hopkins do against Calzaghe, yet makes sure Hatton didn't try It against Floyd?

He did let Floyd elbow without warning too.

You all know I'm not a huge Hatton fan either.

He clearly Is a bad ref.

Why are you talking about the Hatton fight when this thread is about Soto v Lorenzo? Perhaps take the time to read the thread before replying? Did you even watch the fight? If you check around a bit, you'll find this is nothing to do with 'the Brits', there's a bunch of threads on the general forum ripping Cortez for exactly the same thing.

I hope the result is changed to a NC on appeal, and an immediate rematch ordered.

Cortez needs to go now, he has clearly lost the plot, and all this 'I'm fair, but I'm firm nonsense' changes every fight. In one fight, holding is not allowed, the next fight headbutting is allowed, and now a guy DQ'd for jack ****!

He and Ahmet Oener should have dinner together.

Cortez' post fight interview is also fairly sickening. He manages to contradict himself multiple times in two minutes.

First says he went to watch the video to check what he'd seen but later makes references to how things looked from 'his angle'.

Says that the fight was going to be over if Soto hadn't hit Lorenzo when he was down - ummm, so he was going to stop the fight because Lorenzo was too hurt to continue, but due to Lorenzo being hit with another punch decided to leave it another five minutes before he could get any help!? Ridiculously then says something like 'safety comes first'.

Implies then, that Lorenzo couldn't continue due to the punch after he was down, even though he just said he was going to stop the fight before that.

The key point is, just as the interview is ending, Cortez realises he didn't get in his 'firm but fair' catchpahrase, and calls it back to the interviewer as he's walking away. That shows what Joe Cortez is all about. He doesn't care if an injured fighter is left without any medical attention for several minutes, as long as the spotlight is on Joe Cortez.

The Jackson vs Graham fight was a case in point - it was clear that Herol was never beating a ten count, yet Cortez counted him out!

Cortez reffed fine for Hatton vs Mayweather in my opinion.

Bunce was spot on though, Cortez needs to go. Also the fact in the interview he completly lied about what happened. If its a DQ then its a DQ straight away. Why the hell would it take 5 men to decide on that.

Oh yes, I forgot that bit "the rules say if you hit someone when they are down you can get a point taken off, or you may be disqualified, so I had no choice but to disqualify him". What?
