"Tell you what son, you've had a good year this year, i mean that" [Buncey preparing kerr before kerr checks the ESB british forum] bit of a hectic show with all the interviews. suprised all the british boxers named calzaghe as the highlight of 2008 - thought those within the game would be less impressed but im not sure if they are even that interested. i would say froch getting a belt and now a match with taylor, or haye unifying and setting up a match with vitali are more impressive.
Froch beating Pascal better than Calzaghe going to America to beat Hopkins and Jones...riiiight...
Jones not worth mentioning. Hopkins match was close, i think many called it to hopkins. and hopkins was still old and past his best - a victory over pavlik (with pavlik overrated and 2 weights higher than he has gone before) still shouldnt register as the best thing a british boxer achieved this year.
Eerrrr yes it does. Froch struggling to beat an unknown for a vacant belt in his back yard isnt the same as Calzaghe struggling to beat the recognized 175lb champion and All time great, on foreign soil in his first attempt at the weight. all I hear is people saying Hopkins is past his best, does anybody rank Hop outside of their top 5 p4p...? Carl Froch is overrated in every way...:hi:
he is passed his best - nobody can deny that at 43. just a question of how good he still is which is pretty inconclusive. its hard - he did lose twice to taylor, who lost twice to pavlik, who hopkins beat. so how can you even conclusively call him above taylor p4p? strangely hopkins looked in better condition for the pavlik fight than the calzaghe one - where he did completely run out of gas in the mid rounds. thats why i find it hard to call it a credible win for calzaghe, when his opponent was just running away for half the rounds due to being so old and tired. who knows how good hopkins genuinely is now, but a win over an ill, blown-up, and non-head moving pavlik doesnt tell us. plus i thought hopkins calzaghe could have gone either way but thats a different story. we also dont know how good Pascal is, unless you have seen more than 1 fight of his? think haye should get it over froch anyway, but im more counting frochs win as a highlight of the year because it opens up another one of our boxers to some cracking US fights - and i really enjoy watching froch.
We missed a lot but we had a lot. It was a busy show and there was no way that we would be able to tick every box. Adios.
WOW - some pretty heated opinions of the Boxing hour. I thought it was usually Bunce who got the abuse on the forums, rather than yours truly. By the way this is Andy Kerr, AKA Bunce's side kick, AKA ...The Kerrminator ...if Paul doesn't mind me sharing his nickname for a couple of minutes. AKA Pig eyed school, boy ****** or whatever that David UK fella said about me! (Don't sit on the fence David ...get your real feelings out). Sounds as though the vast majority enjoyed our end of year review. We missed out one or two big moments of course. Myself Buncey and the team ( by team we don't mean dozens of people by the way, our producer Rob and researcher Chris do an unbelievable amount behind the scenes but we're hardly the BBC!) wanted to get more in but in an hour there's only so much you can do. We wanted to talk about that amazing Danny Williams Konstantin Airich fight in Spain we featured in the summer when Airich,s promoter, Ahmet Oner rang the bell after 90 seconds of round 7 to save his man. We wanted to do more Pacquiao, and we wanted to do more on James De Gale who arguably gives his best interviews when he comes on the show. But old father time beat us as he usually does. Buncey is doing the Boxing day special review of the year with Richie Woodhall, I imagine a lot of the fights you want to see again will feature in some way. So for our wish for 2009 ... Keep watching, we genuinely love the emails and texts coming in, the boxing hour community is fantastic - even those of you who give me and Buncey stick on the forums. Of course Buncey knows more than me by the way, and probably a lot of you too, but where would the fun be if "The Kid" (thanks Buncey!) knew as much as the Big Man!!! Saturday Kid, Pride of Wales, Trotter and Eddie Salmon you are all absoultely right and astute in your assessment. Bunce does the nitty gritty boxing journo bit, I just try to keep the show flowing while he does his thing. He's been writing about this sport since before I was born so why would you want it any other way? Anyway Thats all cool everyone can't like us! Most importantly of all the response we get is phenominal and continues to grow. Buncey genuinely takes home every email with the intention of replying personally, so keep it coming. We even had a proposal live on the show today! 2008 has been a quality year for the boxing hour. 2009 will be even even better and an even bigger year for boxing on Setanta all round. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year AK x
I think the boxing coverage on Setanta is brilliant. I have only had Sky briefly but from what I've seen of it's coverage it's a little sycophantic towards the 'house' fighters - I don't think you get that on Setanta. Keep up the good work Kerr and Bunce. I do agree you should lose the 'x' sign off as it is uber-gay.
good man andy...love the show....dont always agree with everything that bunce stands for...but its the best boxing magazine show for sure..and you're a top presenter andy :good
