Bunce, with your knowledge of the fight game, why are you wasting your time writing fiction ?? If you wrote a comprehensive biography of one of the great British fighters, like Kirkland Laing, Naz, Honeyghan or Herol, then i'd buy it, but im not interested in boxing fiction when there are so many great factual books about boxing out there .... Buncey, write a biography on Eder Jofre, Ezzard Charles or Jose Napoles and you could be up there with Mcilvanney or Schulberg, stick with fiction and you'll just be another nobody writing about nothing !! Leave your legacy Buncey ....

Buncey, theres a huge gap in the market for a Carlos Monzon Biography .... Ive tried to find one everywere and never come across it, its time you wrote the definitive Monzon biography .. He's the kind of rock n roll, wild man (George Best, Alex Higgins) that sells copies and hes the kind of fighter who's legacy and mythic greatness grows year on year .... Buncey, do the 'Monzon Biography' ....

Kos we all have a sentimental pull to Watson, but lets not kid ourselves, nobody outside Britain considers Watson an all time legend .. You get a Biography of Monzon, Jofre or Napoles out there and the whole world is your market .. Especially Monzon, this guy's legacy and 'mystique' is growing year on year .... The guy who writes the Monzon Biography will be quids in .. What boxing fan doesnt want to read about the legend that is Carlos Monzon ??

I enjoyed it. Better than I thought it would be Bunce. No offence. I always knew you were a top writer just didn't know if you could sustain for that many pages!

It's actually inspired me to get off my arse and finally begin writing my novel which I've had in the pipeline for ages.

Monzon, Jofre and Napoles are not known outside of the die hard. Unless Buncey is going for the Argentine, Brazilian or Cuban/Mexican markets?:huh

I have pitched Monzon and Napoles - two of my favourite fighters. Both were repeatedly rejected. Let me ask you how much you think it would cost to do a quality job on M or N? I'm not doing a book from cuttings.
It would mean weeks in Mexico, Cuba and Argentina - getting translators for the interviews. Writing the thing - not working here and therefore losing money. Do the sums? With a typical advance of about 3 grand? Think about it?
Trust me, I was desperate to find the children Napoles left behind in Cuba, the sons that Monzon had, the mistresses, the venues for their fights, the old sparring partners. But, I could only do that with a month on the ground and the sums simply do not add up.

Adios and I hope that fully answers the questions.

Good answer Mr. Bunce. Shame though, I'm sure you would do a terrific job with it.

Buncey, with all your expert knowledge in the sport of boxing, for all the stories you know, for all the fights you've watched, for all the scrappy undercard bouts you've witnessed, for all the careers you've seen begin from the amateurs, for all those you've then seen retire, for all those boxers you've seen make deluded comebacks, for all the dodgy points decisions and for all those glorious nights..... What on earth posessed you to go on Football Focus?
