buncys a bit nuts thats what makes him great to watch love or hate him he's the best boxing presenter by far
The trouble is that when a presenter is noted for being a bit left-field, once he starts to get stale he either has to re-invent himself completely or take the easier option of becoming more extreme. Danny Baker got away with it, Bunce might not.
Buncey is great but he has to be used in the right way. The issue with Box Nation is that he has been made Quarterback and he is not up to it. He is a journo. Not a pundit, not a presenter. His attempts at humour are often pathetic. The fake phone call with a costa coffee employee the other night was awful, and sometimes the jokes can be quite offensive. Bunces analysis of a how a fight is going to go is based on gut feeling rather than actual analysis of skills, record etc. I get slated for doing that on here.....Bunce is on TV! For Bunce to work you need a presenter and an x boxer/trainer pundit next to him. Not the one man show which we have right now. The whole thing is just self indulgent and lacks any kind of forward thinking, much like the rest of Box Nation. And when you add in the bias nature of the show, continually slating Eddie Hearn while bigging up Fish eyes it just makes the whole thing a joke. The William Hill podcast is actually worse. I listen to the BBC show every now and then but thats it and I am a hardcore fan.
I have to admit, I have never seen one one of Bunces boxing programs. I don't mind him shooting his mouth off as a sideshow attraction on a fight night, but not when he's in the driving seat.
He's much better on the BBC show, maybe because the audience is likely to be more knowledgeable and he doesn't have to resort to the childish crap he does on TV to pull in subs be being "entertaining". Also Ron Boddy is good and he has more sensible, interesting interviews whilst still being Buncey
Right lads, I think he was wearing the flat cap because the guest boxer [Ian Lewison] on the sofa was wearing a cap as a fashion statement, so I "think" Bunce was having a bit of a joke with the guest by wearing a cap also. The strange way he announced Camacho's death was because imo he was reading an auto-cue card, not knowing what he was reading he was trying to make it sound exciting, he most likely realised half through his delivery that his tone was inapropriate but couldn't really go back after he had started in that vien. So in my opinion he gets a by-ball for everything there, but what is inexcusable is the pulling of faces when a guest is talking about some one [in this case Camacho] who has just passed, it's disrespect, inapropriate and simply rude. Most likely the camera went on him by mistake, but it still doesn't excuse his behaviour. I'm a fan of Bunce but at times he over steps the boundaries.
good Spot on post mate. I agree about the pulling a face bit also, I think it was meant to be off camera but it backfired. I have a lot of time for Buncey I just think he is making a few too many errors of judgement at the moment :-(
Bunce has too big a role at Box Nation. ***** has basically made him carry the channel on his back. He is probably completely burnt out and clearly needs some support. They should get that smooth operator Jim Rosenthal in more. EDIT: They've banned Allegedly's most affectionate nickname too now?
There's a pretty obvious reason why Bunce and Lillis are on every show, and you don't have to be Basil Rathbone to work that out! But yeah, I gave up on the Bunce show around last christmas cos spade a spade, it was dreadful. Thankfully with all the talk of jenga competitions and costa coffee phone-ins I haven't missed out. Even from its first episode, it was never a patch on the old Setanta show. It's incredibly self-indulgent, and you get the feeling he's got pretty much free reign on the programme (well as much as you can on a channel run by you-know-who), and nobody holding him back and having a word-which they would have done on Setanta.
I genuinely used to look forward to his show on Setanta. It used to be a lot slicker, well structured and better presented (Andy Kerr). On Boxnation, even though the idea is pretty much the same, it just doesn't work and I find it really boring. Ringside is a lot better IMO. Bunce is best used as a pundit where he can actually relax a bit more and not worry about an autocue.
