Top ten guys are always difficult to pick, prime for prime. So then as fans we look at styles. But Monzons style was a nightmare for most. I'll go with Monzon.
Burley 5'-9", 75" reach. Monzon 5'-11.5", 76" inch reach. Burley fought in a very competitive MW era, but seemed to fall short against the top dogs in his MW Division. Monzon by UD...pulling away in the latter stages of the fight.
Burley fought the toughest guys of probably the toughest era, Moore giving much praise to Burley for whipping him (IIRC), winning some, losing some. I'm inclined to give Monzon the benefit of the doubt. Obviously he was more the more consistent performer. Although you don't get a much better resume than Burley. Too bad no film of him exists. At least for us regulars... Maybe somewhere it does... Along with Greb vs Walker and Robinson vs Gavilan hahahaha
Another poster booted, what is everyone doing to get booted? I would favor Monzon over Burley but won't count out debate to the contrary.
I got Burley. Though Monzon has the longer reach and looks a good deal bigger, I could see Burley slipping Monzon's jab and countering with the body jab. He loved the body jab. The is actually a small amount of film on Burley This content is protected
Nobody beats monzón at 160 .only robinson and hagler could win 1/3.but carlos wins the most of times. Monzon would break down jones late and toney would lose by decision
