Firstly, despite my likely slight bias towards Burns I had Beltran winning by 2 points, close but very clear. Beltran was very hard done by but I think it's difficult to give it to him by more than 2/3 points. Secondly, lets give Ricky a great deal of credit for coming through that 10 rounds with a broken jaw, that's some bravery that everyone needs to respect and admire. I noticed very early that something wasn't right and that he was very wary of being in Beltran's range, it wasn't until 6 or 7 when I seen him grimace after a mediocre left from Ray that I knew the jaw was causing problems. To even last the 12 is unbelievable and at least, in part, makes up for the poor performance. On that poor performance, which no doubt had a lot to do with the jaw but the excuses can't always be made and you really need to look at the level of sparring Ricky is having. To prepare for world title fights the names Billy was mentioning weren't quite at the standard you'd expect, some really good prospects in there but not quite the preparation you need for Gonzalez and Beltran. They need to invest in bringing quality sparring to Glasgow or travel to where the good sparring is, that's pretty clear. Beltran won't come back here and Eddie says America won't happen as there is no interest which=no money for the fight to happen. He also says it'll need to be a unification fight or Beltran next, or even a possible move up which indicates the rumours about the weight issues may be true after all. Crazy night and loads of talking points, we might even see a humble Mr Nelson.......only kidding.
Agree, tough to move on and keep the backing of the fans when most know you lost, has to be corrected in a rematch.
