Burns versus Broner a ‘no brainer’ with massive purse on offer

RICKY BURNS, the World Boxing Organisation super-featherweight champion from Coatbridge, is set to pave the way to achieving millionaire status by agreeing to make a mandatory defence of his title against American Adrien Broner.

The bout, scheduled for Broner’s home city of Cincinnati on November 26, is expected to be finalised this week, with Burns receiving in the region of £200,000 for his fourth defence.

Broner, alias “The Problem”, is undefeated in 21 fights and represents a massive challenge for Burns, who has a 32-2 record and a 26% knockout record compared to the challenger’s 80% strike rate.

i like burns as a fighter and i was really impressed with the way he dealt with martinez, but he was caught and buzzed in that fight and since then his level of competition has been going backwards. dont get me wrong, i'll be supporting him like i do all british world champs but you must concede this will be a very tough fight indeed. Broner is still a very young and improving fighter, i just hope he's the next jeff lacey and not the next aaron pryor, or ricky will be in deep water. i do feel though as brits we should all get behind him and as long as he gives his best, should continue to do so win or lose.

    So did Ponce De Leon!

I have faith that Ricky has the ability to beat him, it's the scoring that concerns me. In his home town and backed by HBO... Ricky's going to need to really do a job.

    All the best. :good
