Ricky Burns has revealed that he is expecting a good luck message from Celtic manager Neil Lennon before his world title bout with Roman Martinez.

The Coatbridge fighter will face Martinez for the WBO super-featherweight crown at Kelvin Hallin Glasgow on Saturday.

And Burns, who has already bee given a signed Celtic shirt ahead of the fight, says he will also receive a phonecall from the Hoops boss as he tries to defy his underdog status.

"I've never met Neil Lennon but one of my friends is friendly with him and apparently he has given Neil my number," he said.

"Neil said he was going to give me a phone before the fight to wish me all the best so I hope he does and I'm looking forward to getting the chance to speak to the man himself.

    Framed

"I got a 'good luck' top from all the Celtic players. I'm going to get it framed and it's definitely one for the living room.

"I want to say a big thanks to all the lads in the Celtic team for doing it for me - it's much appreciated."

Burns also refused to get drawn into Martinez's mind games after the Puerto Rican made a cut-throat gesture during the stare down at Friday's weigh-in.

The 27-year-old added: "I was waiting for it. When I watched his last few fights, when he gets into the ring and they announce his name, he always does it then as well.

"I think it's just one of his trademarks in the build-up to the fights. I just laughed it off - he won't be doing anything like that once we are in that ring.

"We made the weight perfectly for the fight and that's the hard part over so it's party time tomorrow night."

he is actually ,i am surprised he's nailing his colours to the mast .this can be suicide as it potentially can alinate half your support with small minds.

**** them, thats the sort of support we dont want in boxing anyhow. Its them types that cause trouble. Im not a great lover of football but I do casually follow celtic as my whale faimly are hoops daft and some of it has rubbed off onto me but if Ricky were a rangers fan I'd still support him all the way :) (do love listening to Ewan and Roughy's football phone in though)

Remember when Hatton got Becks in the ring during his entrance. Boxing has no football bias which is one of the many things I love about the sport.
